Mission Neighborhood Health Center is Hiring a Medical Assistant (M.A.) On-Call - bilingual Near San Francisco, CA

The Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is a non-profit, multi-site community health organization offering comprehensive health services in the Mission and Excelsior Districts of San Francisco. The center offers primary health care services, adult medicine, pediatrics, family planning, OB/GYN, HIV and homeless services. 

We advocate for health equity and deliver innovative, high-quality services responsive to the neighborhoods and diverse communities we serve with a focus on the Latino Spanish-Speaking Communities.

We are currently looking for qualified candidates for our Medical Assistant (M.A.) positions at one of our San Francisco locations (Shotwell, Resource Center, Excelsior, and Mission Bernal). Please note: this role requires an applicant to be bilingual (English/Spanish). This position reports to the Clinic Supervisor and is a On-Call, Non-Exempt role with a starting hourly rate of $25.23.

Primary Objective:

As an Medical Assistant at Mission Neighborhood Health Center, you join a team of compassionate and dedicated health professionals. You will play a key role in a Care Team as you support medical providers, ensure efficient patient flow, and provide excellent care and service to our patients.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare rooms each day for clinic and between patients as necessary. Includes replacing /restocking supplies; cleaning the counters, sink, exam chair, restocking forms and handouts, etc.
  2. Complete confirmation calls and visit/chart preparation prior to each clinical day/shift.
  3. Promote a team-based approach to care and ensure excellent flow during the clinical shift pro-actively communicating with the provider you are working with, anticipating their needs and the needs of the patients and fellow staff.
  4. During the clinical shift, intake all patients, take and record vital signs, document patient history as relevant, listen to the patients’ chief complaint, and set patient expectations for the visit.
  5. Prepare and administer immunizations as ordered by the medical provider.
  6. Prepare and administer point-of-care HbA1c and glucose tests, Pulmonary Function Tests (peakflow), EKG's and Nebulizer treatments, as ordered by the provider.
  7. Perform phlebotomy, urinalysis and UCG pregnancy tests, when ordered by the provider.
  8. Provide educational materials as ordered by the provider
  9. Schedule patient follow-up visits and explain any follow-up care required for the patient, including referrals to outside specialist.
  10. Prepare rooms for procedures as necessary, with all required equipment and supplies.
  11. Assist providers with procedures.
  12. Complete all required documentation in the Electronic Health Record, correctly and efficiently.
  13. Sterilize equipment using the autoclave and clean the autoclave as assigned.
  14. Use i2i Tracks Health Registry to produce, huddle reports, patient panel reports and follow up on referrals, lab results, etc. Use i2i Tracks to print Visit Summary sheets and follow-up with individual patients regarding recommended health care services (i.e. patient re-calls).
  15. Provide translation services when necessary (English/Spanish).
  16. Cover for the clinic receptionist as necessary. Includes answering phones, scheduling/re-scheduling appointments, making confirmation calls, etc.
  17. Demonstrate an awareness of clinic policies, procedures, protocols, and workflows, as well as scope of practice limitations
  18. Preserve the integrity and confidentiality of patient's medical records and other sensitive information as required by HIPAA Security Policy within and outside the workplace.
  19. Cross- train in other clinic departments beyond your home department, in order to ensure sufficient and stable staffing across the organization.
  20. Possibility to work evenings on Wednesday and Thursday.

Qualifications:

  1. Bilingual Spanish/English 
  2. High School Degree or GED.
  3. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
  4. National Certification as a Medical Assistant strongly preferred.
  5. Basic Life Support Certificate.
  6. Six months experience preferred. Familiarity with third-party reimbursement programs preferred.
  7. Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Outlook and Word (Excel preferred).
  9. Experience with practice management systems and electronic health records.
  10. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with patient records and personal information.
