The Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) is a critical member of the healthcare team, responsible for providing high-quality and compassionate nursing care to patients in a medical-surgical unit. This role involves the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, ensuring the highest standards of safety, comfort, and efficiency are maintained.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by healthcare providers.
  • Monitor and assess patient conditions, promptly identifying and responding to changes or complications.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide holistic patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including vital signs, medications, and treatments.
  • Document patient responses to interventions and any changes in their condition.
  • Complete all required charting and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Educate patients and their families about their medical conditions, treatment plans, and self-care.
  • Provide guidance on post-discharge care, including medications, follow-up appointments, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Adhere to strict infection control protocols and maintain a clean and safe patient care environment.
  • Implement fall prevention strategies and maintain patient safety at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing colleagues, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and meetings to discuss patient progress and care plans.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, assisting in identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices.

Must Have's:

  • Current and valid RN license.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Prior experience in medical-surgical nursing is preferred but not mandatory.

Working Conditions:

  • General environment: Work in a well-lit, air-conditioned area with moderate noise levels.
  • Possible exposure to high noise levels and bright lights.
  • Potential exposure to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
  • Requirement to switch between tasks of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
  • May be scheduled as needed, including overtime.

Physical Requirements:

  • Near-normal vision with clarity at various distances and the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Good manual dexterity and eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks/motions.
