Mirra Construction is Hiring a Safety Supervisor Utility Construction Near Boston, MA

Mirra Co., LLC., has proudly served clients in the civil electric, telecommunication, and natural gas distribution industry. Mirra has been in business for over 70 years, we are continuing to grow and looking to add a Safety Supervisor for our Boston and Greater Boston Region.

We offer installation, design, and management of a variety of services including but not limited to underground electric, cable, fiber optic, and natural gas systems. We are also active in the overhead aerial installation and perform full-service fiber optic splicing expertise.

The Safety Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing safety responsibilities of Mirra crews in the field and at our Boston office. The Safety Supervisor will perform on-site job observation on both in-house and sub-contractor work force to ensure that they are in total compliance with all safety rules, regulations, and policies. The Safety Supervisor is responsible for promoting a positive safety culture, enforcing safe work practices, and educating employees through classroom, hands on and on the job training.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The kind of tasks, duties, and responsibilities that may be assigned to safety supervisors are listed below (tasks and responsibilities are not limited to the listed):

  • Supervises day-to-day activities within a particular construction workplace.
  • Ensures that workers make use of necessary protective equipment like hardhats, safety glasses, gloves, welding shades etc., where and when necessary
  • Investigates accidents and tackles their causes.
  • Reporting of Good Catches and Near Misses
  • Takes note of workers’ safety concerns and immediately acts on them.
  • Arranges training programs on safety measures within the workplace.
  • Develops plans for emergency procedures with the consent of the manager(s) of the workplace.
  • Receives and acts on reports regarding safety concerns from workers within the construction site/workplace.
  • Serves as a link between workers and management when it comes to issues that have to do with the safety and proper organization of the workplace.
  • Introduces measures that will help curb accidents within the workplace.
  • Responsible for training employees on company policies, procedures, and safe work practices
  • Establishing and maintaining health and safety communication structures
  • Continuous monitoring of all safety related documents, reports, and issues to keep them updated.
  • Attending project planning meetings and collaborating with construction managers
  • Safety training for new hires, Refresher, on updated policy and proceduresAssisting with the preparation of a construction health and safety plan

Requirements/ Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in occupational health and safety or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in a dedicated safety role in the utility or construction industry.
  • Knowledge in both aerial and underground utility construction including confined space entry, trench and excavation, NFPA 70e, and DOT.
  • Computer skills in both Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • The ability to speak in front of small and large groups.
  • OSHA 10/30 in Construction
  • CPR/ First Aid/ AED certified.
  • Hazwoper 40 certified
  • Clean Driving Record

Willingness to travel:
