The Personal Care Attendant performs a variety of delegated limited patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN) in a complementary and assistive role. Consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, adequately stocked and safe patient care environment. This position is limited to a 4-month term. Employees who wish to continue employment after the expiration of the PCA term, will need to fulfill the requirements for a Certified Nursing Assistant.
- Assists residents with personal hygiene, by assisting with or giving bed baths, baths, or showers; toileting by offering bedpans and walking patients to the toilet; providing and skin care; and keeping patients clean at all times.
- Responds to Call Light
- Assists residents with dressing and undressing
- Assists with turning and positioning of residents on schedule
- Pass meal trays and water
- Make unoccupied beds
- Transfer or assist with transfer of residents from bed/chair/wheelchair with use of Gait Belt
- Identify emergency procedures and understand appropriate responses
- Maintain infection control
- Identify mental health/challenging behaviors
- Obtain oral for non-contact temperatures
- Escalates higher level tasks/conditions to nursing staff
- Complies with HIPAA Privacy Act by protecting confidential patient information.
- Follows all policies and procedures to maintain a safe hospital setting.
- Participates in all training and continuing education. Maintains licensure to meet federal, state, and accreditation standards.
