Mintel is Hiring a Research Analyst Near Toronto,

Mintel is in search of a research and market analyst for our Toronto office, who will be covering a variety of topics and industries: Technology, Media, Food & Drink, Leisure Activities and Shopping. The qualified Analyst will be a commercially-driven professional who understands how consumer research helps the world’s largest and most creative companies grow their business.

You will contribute to our internationally recognized syndicated publications by applying their extensive consumer research knowledge and critical thinking to develop quantitative and qualitative research plans, analyze consumer and market data and write insightful research reports. You will work as part of a team, sharing ideas and insight, while taking ownership of specific subject areas. Main responsibilities include developing objectives, designing primary research, analyzing resulting data, writing reports, managing the reports processes, responding to client queries and working with Mintel’s sales and marketing/PR teams.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Creating insightful industry and lifestyle reports: You will employ a wide range of research tools, including primary and secondary sources alongside quantitative and qualitative consumer research to create insightful, relevant analysis of consumers that includes consumer, market, retailer and/or supplier research and perspective in conjunction with publication timelines.
  • Telling a Story: You will tell a holistic story using a combination of consumer, demographic, economic, market, and manufacturing data to create forward-looking analyses. You are able to create actionable insights and recommendations, providing critical thinking, insight and forward looking statements that impact our readers’ business/careers.
  • Developing Quantitative Consumer Surveys and Qualitative Exercises: You will create online surveys and discussion panels to meet research objectives.
  • Conducting Secondary Research: You will evaluate external resources to strengthen and support consumer insights and recommendations (eg Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics and other public sources).
  • Building Strong Internal Relationships: You will collaborate with colleagues across the company, including the commercial side of the business, our consulting division and several other teams.
  • Providing Insights to Clients: You will interact with a variety of clients ranging from small marketing agencies to multi-national giants to provide them with your expertise.
  • Conducting Trade Interviews: You will take part in interviews in order to gain insight into the key issues relevant to reports being written.

  • Naturally Curious: You are naturally curious and great at navigating internal and external data, asking second and third level questions to see the patterns behind data to craft expert analysis to be used by clients.
  • Self-Directed: You take initiative to solve problems and uncover opportunities. You have a self-sufficient work ethic; entrepreneurial in spirit and are naturally self-motivated. You welcome the ability to work in a fast paced environment and work autonomously to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once.
  • Great Communicator: You have extremely polished verbal and written communication skills, and can adapt your communication style to internal and external partners. You speak clearly, concisely, and present yourself with confidence. 
  • Tech-Savvy: You have excellent Microsoft Office skills. You are able to find creative ways to help clients digest and derive insights from large sets of data. You have experience working with syndicated consumer research such as Simmons/MRI and have worked with syndicated sales data such as IRI or Nielsen.
  • A Collaborator: You bring an energy to the table that encourages and develops internal relationships. You seek out opportunities to collaborate with peers in your department and across the organization to ultimately elevate our clients' experience.
