Job Summary:
Under supervisory direction, intern will perform the following duties; assess, diagnose, counsel, and provide psychotherapeutic treatment, rehabilitation, and care coordination for emotionally disturbed children, adolescents, adults; provides educational and consultation services to other staff, school staff, collateral and significant others; and performs related duties as required.
*This position is non-paid.
Essential Functions and Duties:
•Interviews potential clients to assess the need for direct mental health treatment of mental and emotional disorders or referral elsewhere; provides comprehensive medically necessary and psychotherapeutic services for individuals or members of a family to assist them in achieving productive social adjustments, reducing the impact of disabling disorders, and facilitating their achievement of living, vocational, recreational, and interpersonal goals through the modalities of individual, family, group counseling, and through collateral/significant other contacts.
•Diagnostically assesses, formulates, and completes the client’s written ISP inclusive of diagnosis, goals, and appropriate signatures within 30 days or the first 5 sessions from initial client contact, whichever is longer. All ISP updates must be completed within the ODMH rule timeframe.
•Completes and enters into the clients ICR all professional documentation no later than one week of all client contact. Compensation is conditional upon the timely completion of all professional documentation.
•Shares and receives appropriate information with the parents and/ or guardians, collateral/ significant others, to assist in a collaborative effort with clients. Release of information forms must be signed by the parent/guardian.
•Educates clients and their families regarding their diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and therapeutic process.
•When working in a work site and/or school site, CT should work cooperatively with teachers, guidance counselors, and administrative staff within their assigned buildings including, but not limited to, relaying appropriate information to and from school facilities, assessing needs of additional staff, and coordinating services within the building.
•Identifies, recommends, networks and/or utilizes community resources to facilitate the highest possible mental health functioning of all assigned clients. Involvement in home visits may be necessary to assure continuity of clinical care.
•Adheres to the agency’s personnel policies and procedures, ODMH, Medicaid and Insurance standards, and fulfill documentation and reporting requirements.
•Informs work site, school site and/or Minority Behavioral Health Group when ill or unable to attend.
•Participates in quality assurance and program evaluation studies.
•Attends and participates in scheduled or required training, staff meetings, peer review, workshops, and supervision.
•Maintains at least their current or the minimum required Ohio licensure status as a qualified ODMH service provider. All CEU certificates obtained during employment with MBHG must be copied for entry into their personnel file.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in a Master/PhD level university’s internship program and maintain one of the following: (1) Counselor in Training - by the Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family CT Board or (2) 
 Senior doctoral student trainee – by the Ohio State Board of Psychologist: 
•Demonstrated experience in the treatment of children, adolescents, adults, and families individually, and in group modality.
•Ability to reasonably problem-solve complex, and possible crisis mental health client problems.
•Ability to develop and write clear, concise documents involving client outcome reporting requirements.
•Effective time management and interviewing skills.
•Acceptance and dedication toward the Mission of Minority Behavioral Health Group.
•Possession of valid Ohio driver’s license 
•Liability Auto Insurance with a minimum of $100,000/$300,000 coverage
•Professional malpractice liability insurance with a minimum of $1,000,000/$3,000,000.00 coverage.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
•Working knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, counseling, and psychotherapeutic treatment of marriage, family, and child relationship dysfunctions:
•Methods of developing and implementing a treatment plan;
•Current trends in the field of mental health; laws and regulations applicable to mental health;
•Ability to perform effective counseling and psychotherapy with individuals, families, and groups; develop and maintain cooperative relationships with clients’ families, members of other professional disciplines, social agencies, and co-workers;
•Relate professionally with persons with mental disorders;
•Identify and utilize community resources;
•Advise and train other mental health staff;
•Prepare and present clear and concise oral and written reports.

The work environment is at any approved site of MBHG, in the schools and in the community. They are representative of the environments that a Counselor in Training must be able to work in to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
