SUMMARY:

MCAD is seeking part-time temporary instructors to teach in the MCAD Continuing Education youth program, Studio Kids. Studio Kids is a summer art program for children ages 6-12. Studio Kids introduces students to the world of art and ideas through week-long sessions that combine creative themes with fun and challenging art projects incorporating history lessons, drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and collage. These studio-based courses encourage children to think, design, build, and create in addition to covering technical concepts such as color, line, composition, form, and texture. Summer 2024 openings are for classes June 18-August 2, with different instructors and themes each week.

The Studio Kids Instructor must be sensitive to college needs, employee and student goodwill, and overall brand equity of MCAD as an employer and educational institution.

DETAILS: This is a non-benefit eligible exempt contract position. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Continuing Education and is paid $56.14 per teaching hour, in addition to some prep time pay.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop a one week class for students ages 6-9 in fall 2023.
• Create curriculum, class schedule and supply and classroom needs in May 2024.
• Teach a class Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. with a lunch break in summer 2024. Instructors are expected to be on campus 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. 
• Provide supervision and guidance to Teaching Assistants assigned to the class. 
• Serve as a mentor and establish a positive tone for students and Teaching Assistants. 
• Maintain communication with the Continuing Education office regarding any program or class needs. 
• Other duties as assigned.
• Represents MCAD’s vision, purpose, and values in day to day work and interactions with MCAD students, staff, faculty, and campus guests, as well as the greater community. 

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• A degree in Art Education. Advanced degree preferred, but not required.
• A minimum of 3-years curriculum development and teaching art classes for pre-K-12 education.
• A Minnesota license in K-12 education (or equivalent) is preferred. 

ENVIRONMENT: This position operates in a professional office environment. This position requires the ability and willingness to closely partner with team members and colleagues in other departments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
