SUMMARY:

MCAD is seeking a part-time Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our Student Counseling and Wellness team and to work with our diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students. The Mental Health Counselor (PT) must be sensitive to college needs, employee and student goodwill, and overall brand equity of MCAD as an employer and educational institution.

DETAILS: This is a part-time, non-exempt position expected to work in person, 2 days/week for a total of 14 hours, during the fall and spring college semesters (mid-August through mid-May). This position reports to the Director of Student Counseling and Wellness and is paid $40 per hour. There may be additional hours available as determined by the needs of the department.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide individual counseling, intake assessments, crisis intervention, and resources to students experiencing developmental and adjustment stress, mental health and substance abuse symptoms/diagnoses, personal or relational issues, and academic/learning challenges
• Develop appropriate counseling strategies based on presenting concerns of student/client
• Develop and provide counseling groups and skills-based groups/workshops as needed
• Facilitate mental health, medical, and community referrals
• Maintain timely confidential records and documentation of clinical services
• Other duties as assigned.
• Represents MCAD’s vision, purpose, and values in day to day work and interactions with MCAD students, staff, faculty, and campus guests, as well as the greater community. 

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Master’s degree or higher degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, or related fields from an accredited program. 
• Must be a licensed mental health professional in the State of Minnesota.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of college students, faculty, and staff. 
• Possess an understanding of multicultural issues in mental health. 
• Previous experience working in a college mental health setting and interest in the art and design field a plus. 

ENVIRONMENT: This position operates in a professional office environment. This position requires the ability and willingness to closely partner with team members and colleagues in other departments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
