Minidoka Memorial Hospital is Hiring an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT 2011) Near RUPERT, ID

Description

Job Summary

AEMT 2011 is responsible to the Crew Chief on duty, then the Director of Nursing Services while on duty in the hospital. AEMT 2011 functioning in a pre-hospital setting is responsible to follow physician orders regarding care of the patient(s). AEMT’s that are Crew Chiefs are responsible to follow physicians standing orders and/or the Emergency Room Physician orders. The AEMT is responsible on a shift to shift and on-call basis for the pre-hospital and general patient care provided under the Idaho EMS guidelines and hospital policy. The areas of responsibility are divided into four functional areas:

  • Pre-hospital patient care and transport.
  • Administrative assignments
  • Educational/Developmental/Licensure responsibilities.
  • Intra-hospital responsibilities, transport and other duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

PRE-HOSPTIAL PATIENT CARE AND TRANSPORT

  • Responds via ambulance in a safe, expedient, and efficient manner to the scene or location of injured and/or sick patient.
  • Provides direct patient care after evaluating the scene, by assessing the needs of individual patients, and treating the patient(s) appropriately.
  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with the laws governing Idaho AEMT’s, with the standards set by the Idaho Emergency Medical Services Bureau, and the Idaho Physician Commission, Minidoka Memorial Hospital Medical Control Physicians and Minidoka Memorial Hospital Policies and Procedures manual.
  • Assures that medical treatment provided, as it relates to the pre-hospital setting and during transports is properly implemented, evaluated and documented.
  • Adheres to the criteria for use of standing written orders as set up by the Medical control Physician of Minidoka Memorial Hospital.
  • Assures that the proper communication, via two-way radio or cell phone is carried out with the Emergency Room Physician, Emergency Department, State Communication Center, other hospitals. Appropriate law enforcement agencies and/or other appropriate public service agencies and/or units.
  • Assures that the ambulance is driven at all times in a safe manner and in accordance with the laws governing the operation of Emergency Vehicles in the State of Idaho and the Emergency Driving Standards in the policy and procedures manual.
  • Assures that the ambulances are stocked, cleaned, and ready for use at all times.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSIGNMENTS

  • Responsible to follow personnel and staffing policies as they relate to him/her.
  • Responsible to participate in evaluations pertinent to the area of practice as they relate to Quality Assurance.
  • Responsible to provide feedback to the shift supervisor on needs of the service and current program.
  • Responsible to control use of supplies and equipment by ensuring that the correct and appropriate billing system is competed after each ambulance call.
  • Completes other job related duties as necessary and/or other assigned duties per director request.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, bystanders, visitors, and other personnel.
  • Know and understands specific responsibilities of his/herself and staff in the event of fire (Code Red), Disaster (Code Black), cardiopulmonary arrest (Code Blue).
  • Demonstrates professional and ethical conduct as established by Minidoka Memorial Hospital policy and the Idaho EMS Bureau standards and ethics for the Emergency Medical Technicians.
  • Responsible to evaluate self-educational needs on an ongoing basis and seek those resources to meet those needs.
  • Actively engage in quality improvement activities.
  • Responsible to work in conjunction with shift supervisor to identify programs which would meet staff needs.

FIRST PRIORITY IS TO THE AMBULANCE TO MAKE SURE IT IS STOCKED AND MAINTAINED.

  • Responds to calls on the 911 pager is first priority.
  • Completes job-related duties as assigned by the department supervisor.
  • Assists nurses in taking vital signs and documentation, triage and discharging patients within the hospital.
  • Start un-medicated intravenous fluids within the hospital with accurate documentation of same, as agreed upon in the written contract between the hospital and EMS.
  • Assist in assessment of patient in the emergency department with documentation on ER record, in accordance with emergency room policies and scope of practice, e.g., information regarding complaint, vital signs, and observations, however, the RN must still make an entry in the record or his/her assessment.
  • Transports patients by wheelchair and stretcher to and from bed, chairs, wheelchairs, and stretchers, to include Countryside. This is done in conjunction with an employee of that department.
  • Obtains supplies and equipment, etc., when under the direction of the department supervisor.
  • Reports identified intra-departmental problems to the RN.
  • Assigned duties may be subject to change. All revisions will be documented in Minidoka Memorial Hospital policy and procedure manuals and copies given to all AEMT personnel.
  • Required to be in base headquarters or within the hospital area when on duty. If duty assignment requires being outside of the hospital area, alert appropriate personnel of that location.
  • Participates as a member of the Code team in a code situation within the hospital
  • In the event of a code in Countryside, the staff will call 911 to have AEMT respond with ambulance and equipment need for code.
  • Actively engage in quality improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

UNIFORMS

  • A uniform that is professional looking and clean will be worn while on duty in the hospital. Refer to Dress Code policy in the Minidoka Memorial Hospital Employee Handbook
  • In pre-hospital settings weather conditions may modify need for other than states designated uniforms.
  • Uniforms shall be approved by the “Director of Ambulance to assure uniformity.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Certified as an AEMT2011 and provides that certification, at the time of hire, to the Director of Ambulance.
  • Responsible to maintain AEMT certification, by meeting the minimum requirements for continued certification and re-certification.
  • Required to be in excellent physical condition without limitation and stable emotional health.

Preferred Requirements

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience

Skills/Competencies

  • Required to meet the minimum continuing education hours and perform the minimum skills required (i.e. IV’s, Supraglottic airway, Medication Administration) monthly Defibulator/12 lead ECG checks per the AEMT Physician Medical Director, and Idaho EMS Bureau.
  • Requires yearly completion of Care Learning and complete yearly Skill verifications.
  • Able to act as supervisor of the pre-hospital care given when working with EMT’s and other advanced EMT’s.
  • Knowledgeable in the pre-hospital setting and care entities involved.
  • Required to attend six department staff meetings yearly.
  • Has a current Idaho driver’s license and is in good standing with the State of Idaho.
  • All personnel currently employed, and for future employment, will consent to authorization to release driver’s record information.
  • Any potential action through the State of Idaho on your driving record could/will affect your ability to drive ambulance vehicles. Potential driving action could include: D.U. I., reckless driving, or any potential suspensions due to other driving infractions.

Physical Requirements

Perceive the nature of sounds by the ear, express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word, perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes, extend arms and hands in any direction, seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands, pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers, perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and stoop, kneel crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous walking and standing. Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Rare lifting of greater than 100 pounds.
