QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and be open to training in areas of need. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High School Diploma or equivalent; and one of the following: A. Pass the District Proficiency Examination at the level appropriate to the job classification. B. Received course certification in one or more essential functions. C. Possess two years of experience in a job-related field. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Lawn maintenance grounds keeping techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in grounds work and other grounds/gardening activities. Installation of playground and sports equipment. General black-topping, cement and surfacing procedures. Various types of utility maintenance jobs. Safe driving operations and practices. Vehicle safety signals including lights, wipers and mirrors.
ABILITY TO: Follow oral and written directions. Operate medium duty equipment used in grounds and utility work. Operate a school bus properly and safely. Maintain order among students being transported. Check the bus for safety equipment and refer to the mechanic as necessary. Work with special education students who may present special challenges. Maintain cooperative working relationships. Possess, maintain, or earn a valid California School Bus Driver's Certificate issued by the California Highway Patrol within one year of being hired.
