Milhouse Engineering & Construction is Hiring a Project Planning & Governance Analyst Near Lombard, IL

Milhouse Engineering & Construction, Inc. is adding a Project Analyst to their Project Controls team!

In this role you will provide project controls and data analytics to support assigned engineering profit centers. The role will drive compliance with established Milhouse Project Management, operations, and fiscal best practices as well as project controls team policies and procedures. This role will also be heavily involved in predictive data decision-making for group managers, leaders, and project managers using data analysis of project data and basic project financial modeling.

You will also be part of solution development, using VantagePoint, Sharepoint, MS Office Suite solutions, or other solutions that have been accepted by team and organizational leadership.

In addition to, you will organize and develop data insights related to cost and contract value estimates, project percent complete earned value, project status reports, VantagePoint cost reports, backlog data, and resource management needs. This also includes project planning reviews, plan update recommendations, following current project management life-cycle, and holding group and project managers accountable to existing processes and best practices.

What you will do:

  • Assists with data collection and implementation of accounting methods, budget tracking, earned value analysis, status reports, and cost projections.
  • Responsible for providing guidance to Project Manager for the setup of new projects (Planning) and suggest improvements for capitalizing on revenue during the planning phase of a new project.
  • Outline any possible risks (Act as a Stakeholder in the Project Management Process)
  • Facilitate the cost and resource management, project planning updates, project staffing levels, forecasting, and monthly reports.
  • Responsible for the flow of quality information to project accountants and Lead Project Accountant, following up as needed
  • Review all documents that lead to the client’s notice to proceed with a new project or request of change order. This may include reviewing contract on a Non-Legal level to reduce Milhouse’s risk and to understand purpose of project scope. Escalate internal approvals as appropriate.
  • Ensuring data entry is recorded in a timely manner (1-2 business days), and data integrity is of the upmost quality for decision making.
  • Ensuring project documents are retained and managed per the Project Document Controls & Retention Policy.
  • Work with in-house Legal team to maintain current document controls protocols and communicate any updates back to the assigned profit center.
  • Executes current policies & procedures and presents opportunities for improvement.
  • Support and performs project cost/billing rate analysis to optimize project financial performance.
  • Support the assigned group with external assignments including, but not limited to, agency requests, internal functional department requests and daily internal & external project communications. We will work with the project manager and communicate with clients per project manager and group leader per request.
  • Collaborates with appropriate staff to gather input and feedback concerning system needs.
  • Support the resolution of realized risks and documents lessons learned to be shared.
  • Escalate any unresolved issues to their supervisor or assigned group leader.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Stewards of and execution of the Project Management Manual and hold compliance and offer areas for improvement.
What we are looking for:
  • Project management knowledge via Project Management Institute (PMI) or another organization.
  • High degree of critical thinking.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of different Project Delivery Contract Types (Lump Sum/Fixed Fee (LS and FF), Time & Material/Cost Plus Fixed Fee (CPFF)
  • Basic level of understanding of contract terms and requirements.
  • AIA contract review and basic understanding is a plus. (Non-Legal)
  • Custom report building & modeling.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • 1-3 years of working Deltek Vantagepoint/Vision experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of basic accounting and project management principles, as defined by GAAP and PMI.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with different organizational levels.
Your background:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field, with 1-3 years of experience or associate degree in related field, with 3-5 years of experience, preferred.
  • Minimum of 5yrs related experience in absence of an associate or Bachelor's Degree.
  • Architecture / Engineering, Project Management, Consulting, or with project accountancy a plus.
  • Excel VBA or Python working experience is a plus.
  • Competent in MS Office Suite solutions (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook
  • MS SharePoint experience is a plus.
  • ProjectWise experience is a plus.
