Job Position Responsibilities and Required Skills and Education

As a candidate for the position of Patrol Officer with the Mifflin County Regional Police Department, it will NOT be required that the candidate have his/her Act 120 certification at the time of the offer of employment. The candidate must be a citizen of the United States of America, and possess a current and valid PA driver’s license. Additionally, the candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 21 years-of-age, be able to successfully pass a requisite background investigation (that will require a signed release of information form), have a criminal history free of any misdemeanor and/or felony convictions, be capable of possessing requisite skills, knowledge and ability (both physical and mental) for a patrol officer, be of good moral character, be able to pass a physical agility test as outlined in the PA MPOETC requirements, and have acceptable visual acuity function.

In addition to the above requirements, the candidate will be required to submit to an oral review board consisting of a panel of members from the Civil Service Commission, a polygraph interview, a psychological test and evaluation, a physical medical evaluation, and a review of past employment and references which will require the signing of a release for said investigations.

The responsibility of a patrol officer employed by the Mifflin County Regional Police Department will include, but will not be limited to:
1. Punctuality for all employment related requirements.
2. The identifying of all violations of Federal, State and local statutes, ordinances, rules and regulations.
3. Interaction with public during common and investigative encounters.
4. Investigation and prosecution of violations.
5. Interaction with other members of law enforcement, lower and higher court personnel, and chain-of-command personnel.
6. The ability to operate and utilize police vehicles and equipment in a safe manner.
7. The ability to navigate and traverse all potential terrain and structures contacted during the course of employment and investigation.
8. The ability to remain neutral with respect to race, age, gender, creed, religious influence, country of origin, sexual orientation, or other aspect of perceived bias.
9. The ability to conduct one’s self in a manner that does not reflect poorly upon the agency, law enforcement, and public service as a whole.
10. The ability to complete a myriad of documentation legibly and correctly, including the ability to compute mathematical problems and use proper grammar.

It is not required that a candidate possess prior experience in law enforcement, military experience or collegiate experience, but these experiences will be considered.

Qualified and interested candidates must submit a resume and letter-of-interest to the Mifflin County Regional Police Department, 77 Reserve Lane, Lewistown, PA 17044, attention to the "Chief of Police". Said material must be received by the Chief of Police no later than 4:00pm on Friday, May 31, 2024. All submitted material must include a current mailing address, phone number and email address.
