Midwestern University is Hiring a Pediatrician - Clinical Assistant Professor - AZCOM Near Glendale, AZ

This position reports to the Chair of Department of Women and Child Health of AZCOM.

Responsibilities include:

Academic (40% time):

  • Assist with labs in physical examination, clinical skills, and observe and review standardized patient experiences with students.
  • Provide remediation counseling and resources/materials for students who have pediatric post rotation exam failures.
  • Facilitate small groups and workshops experiences for first- and second-year students
  • Recruit and monitor pediatric rotations for third- and fourth-year students (including site visits)
  • Teach in pediatric small groups, pediatric elective
  • Review and score SOAP notes
  • Review AZCOM student pediatric rotation performance and grade rotations. This includes investigation of student rotation deficiencies in pediatrics.
  • Provide pediatric assignments for students who miss parts of pediatric rotations due to quarantine or other missed days.
  • Participate in admissions interviews for AZCOM
  • Participate in scholarly activities
  • Serve on AZCOM committees as assigned
  • Mentor AZCOM students who intend to match to pediatric residency and provide letters of recommendation as needed.
  • Act as Pediatric Interest Group faculty club advisor

Clinical (60% time):

  • See and treat assigned pediatric patients in the Multispecialty Clinic
  • Teach students at the bedside as assigned and assess student clinical learning
  • Participate in quality improvement and peer review

Supervisory responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications/Education:

This position requires either a D.O. or M.D. degree, completion of a residency in pediatrics and board eligibility/board certification in pediatrics. The candidate must have a license to practice in the State of Arizona, a DEA license, and be insurable for medical liability. 

Computer skills:

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point) and ability to adapt to electronic health record input.

Language skills:

Advanced skills: Ability to read and interpret lab and imaging examinations and other medical records for the care of patients. Ability to write medical reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups and individuals.

Reasoning ability:

Advanced skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with complex medical matters and make rational decisions in patient care.

Mathematical ability:

Basic skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, dosages, and percent and to interpret bar graphs and convert English to metric and vice versa.
