Midwestern University is Hiring a Manager, Costin Institute- IL- Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine Near Downers Grove, IL

Summary:

The Manager of the Costin Institute for Osteopathic Medical Educators is charged with carrying out all duties needed to provide the premiere teaching effectiveness and leadership program for medical educators. The Manager of the Costin Institute will work to achieve the educational goals of Midwestern University / Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine This position will report to the Dean of CCOM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This individual's efforts will be directed at times to all 3 components of medical education including undergraduate medical education (UME), graduate medical education (GME), and continuing medical education (CME). This position is also charged with directing the Mini Medical School program and advising and assisting with faculty development. Duties include:

  • Establish goals, objectives, and measurable outcomes for the Institute.
  • Plan and monitor the curriculum.
  • Select appropriate faculty and guide course content.
  • Solicit applicants for yearly cohort.
  • Market the program via website, etc.
  • Lead the applicant selection process.
  • Direct the program sessions.
  • Teach in the program as indicated.
  • Conduct follow up of the program.
  • Arrange the graduation process.
  • Seek opportunities to hold Costin “satellite” programs as appropriate.
  • Develop additional tracks as indicated.
  • Seek additional funding for the Institute.
  • Occasional travel will be required.

Mini-Medical School Program:

  • Direct Mini-Medical School program that is held once a year which includes a 5 week series providing college-aged and high school students with an opportunity to experience medical school or other healthcare professions.
  • Act as an advisor for the Social Equity Committee (SEC) which includes working closely with Student Doctors to reach out primarily to underserved and underrepresented students, to create curriculum and oversee each Saturday session. 
  • Provide guidance for all purchased materials, food and sources of additional funding needed.
  • Serve as primary contact for schools, parents, and students regarding the program. 

Faculty and Medical Student/Resident Physician Learner Development:

  • Be available to advise and counsel with participation as indicated to other MWU colleges and departments.
  • Participate in faculty development for CCOM.

CCOM – departmental responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the CCOM strategic plan.
  • Participate in CCOM committees.
  • Supervise support staff.
  • Seek additional grant monies for CCOM, as it relates to the above areas.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

A Master’s degree is required with 3 years of previous related administrative and teaching experience required. Ed.D.or Ph.D. is preferred. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Must be well organized, forward thinking and goal oriented. Experience in graduate healthcare professional education is preferred.
