Midwestern University is Hiring a Mailroom Clerk- IL- Campus Facilities Near Downers Grove, IL

Summary

The Mailroom Clerk reports directly to the Supervisor of Mailroom, Shipping/Receiving, and is responsible for ensuring all mailroom activities are completed efficiently and cost-effectively. These duties include sorting, distributing, and delivering all incoming postal mail and packages to the campus, picking up and delivering interoffice mail for the campus, and metering and organizing all outgoing mail. The Mailroom Clerk helps advance the customer service priorities that we offer to our campus community. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday 11:30 am-8 pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sort, distribute, and deliver incoming postal/inter-department mail to ensure timely distribution.
  • Sort, stamp, and deliver outgoing postal mail.
  • Correct and reforward misdirected mail.
  • Operate office equipment including meter machines.
  • Assist with labeling and processing FedEx and UPS packages when necessary.
  • Assist students, faculty, and staff that enter the mailroom as needed.
  • Respond to questions or issues via email, or telephone, and escalate unresolved questions to the Supervisor.
  • Assist Shipping/Receiving as needed which may include operating a forklift to move heavy boxes.
  • Provides backup coverage to the shipping/receiving functions, this includes providing coverage during peak-time or staffing needs, ensuring we maintain customer service consistency to our campus community.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Must have at least 1 year of related clerical, records management, mailroom operations or shipping and receiving experience. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines. Valid driver’s license required.

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Language Skills

Basic skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability

Intermediate skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Mathematical Ability

Basic skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
