Description

The Priddy Scholars (PS) program provides support and guidance to a cluster of 40 first-generation students; the program is high touch, intrusive and proactive to support PS students and keep them progressing towards the goals of student success and timely graduation. The PS Coordinator is responsible for the leadership, management, budget, recruitment and assessment of the PS Program. Promotes PS student involvement and engagement through student organizations, fraternity and sorority life, and leadership development programs. Coordinates PS student volunteer and service learning programming. Responsible to the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs (Director of MOSAIC).

Examples

Program Management and Execution. Oversee all facets of the planning and execution of PS events, seminars and/or meetings by managing logistics, preparing agendas, gathering materials, communicating with attendees, and attending/hosting. Facilitate execution of program objectives by identifying and fostering key relationships on campus and in the larger community. This position will build key relationships with other student affairs departments, faculty, academic advisors, administrators, staff, students and parents. Plan, design and execute three retreats annually, weekly cohort meetings and monthly all PS meetings; programming also includes faculty/staff presentations, icebreakers/team-builders and on-campus cultural and social activities. Manage all forms of correspondence including confidential documents; initiating, coordinating and scheduling individual and group meetings; filing; contacting and confirming speakers; summarizing event evaluations; creating emails and other announcements; assisting students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors as needed; responding to and following up on all requests from internal and external stakeholders. Distribute and monitor recruiting correspondence and facilitate selection process for incoming applications for assigned programs. Prepare and update program materials, communications, websites, newsletters, and presentations as necessary. Oversee and maintain project timelines and deadlines. Maintain central database of current PS students, regional high schools and contacts or other relevant information.

Success coaching. Take an intrusive approach to advising students on program expectations and objectives; and in helping students acquire resources and skills for academic success. Manage communication to academic advisors and other success coaches in the various colleges as necessary; collaborate with advisors/coaches on complex student issues.

Collaboration and partnering. Collaborate with other University departments on campus to serve student needs. Represent the program at admission events, college fairs, transfer fairs, high school visits, receptions, and other outreach programs. Respond to e-mail, phone, and written requests for program information from prospective undergraduate students and families. Meet with prospective students and families. Contribute to and collaborate on the implementation of the University strategic plan and Student Affairs division priorities.

Monitor program effectiveness. Solicit and respond to feedback regarding various aspects of the program. Gather program data using the most relevant method (survey design, survey administration, focus groups, etc.). Analyze data, present findings and recommendations to department director and recommend actions for future programming and continuous improvement. Ensure that program costs remain within projected budget guidelines and execute events within budget. Monitor expenses, conduct reconciliations, and prepare reports on activity costs.

General. Advance philosophies of student affairs and intercultural competency while actively promoting diversity in staffing, programming, and student leadership. Support all programs and initiatives originating in FIRST2GO. Assist in the total development of the Division of Student Affairs through participation in university, division, and departmental committees. Represent the department at university functions when appropriate. Assume responsibility for other special projects and committee work as delegated. Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Physical Condition

Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over thirty pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods of time, to climb stairs, stoop, bend, and reach overhead. Sufficient strength, stamina, and mobility to perform manual tasks associated with programming responsibilities.

Experience

Demonstrated skill in working with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds, leading or advising student organizations, and coordinating campus activities is required. Prior experience in the area of student services, student affairs and/or student activities is preferred. Prior experience in student leadership development, service learning, multicultural services, orientation, and/or program assessment desirable.

Knowledge

Must exhibit knowledge of student development theory, group development, and successful program planning. Must possess skills in the areas of leadership, organization, risk management, advising, and counseling. Must have an understanding and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and economic diversity of students and the community. Must be proficient in the use of computers and commonly used office software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher and Outlook. Familiarity with software applications for tracking student information, student engagement and retention data (i.e., Banner, Campus Labs Engage and Baseline, EAB Navigate, etc.) preferred.

Education

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, with emphasis in higher education, student personnel administration, counseling, or similar desired.

Additional Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess direct and sustained experience with leadership development training, group facilitation, assessment and program evaluation, student learning, student and staff development, student conduct and due process, and developing and applying University policies. Must have strong communication and organizational skills. Must have creative and artistic abilities and skill in planning and effectively managing multiple projects to completion. Leadership and enthusiasm a must. *Evening and weekend work is required during various programs.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
