Position Summary

We are actively recruiting for an open position of full time Ophthalmic Technician at our Affiliate, Midwest Eye Center.

Responsibilities

SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s visual status by maintaining an environment conducive to the delivery of efficient quality eye care. The ophthalmic technician is able to effectively perform appropriate clinical testing by previous form education and or clinical experience which allows an understanding of the theory, principals of eye care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • History taking
  • Visual acuity measurement
  • Refractometry (measurements for the glasses prescription)
  • Tonometry (measure eye pressure)
  • Measure pupil size and reactivity
  • Test and measure eye muscle function
  • Visual field testing
  • Corneal thickness measurement
  • Corneal curvature measurement
  • Corneal topography
  • Retinal nerve fiber layer measurement
  • Retinal thickness and topography
  • Fluorescein angiography
  • A and B-scan ultrasonography
  • Assist with contact lens fitting, and patient instruction
  • Prepare for and assist with in-office procedures
  • Surgical assisting

  • The ability to seek advice from others when accuracy is uncertain, and findings are inconsistent
  • An attitude that reflects a desire to go beyond the minimum required duties
  • Understanding that dependent upon need there may be instances where he/she is asked to travel to satellite offices

Qualifications

  • Must be flexible with regards to shift ( as hours may vary and are dictated by clinic needs).
  • Graduation from an accredited high school
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience required
  • Ophthalmic and or optometric technician experience preferred
  • COA preferred
  • Dependable transportation required to travel to other offices as required
