We are currently seeking a plant health care specialist to work within the maintenance department. The plant health care specialist will work independently in applying fertilizer, pesticides, and specialized applications to customers trees and shrubs throughout the course of the growing season to ensure healthy and vibrant plants. The ability to scout, diagnose, and treat diseases on trees and shrubs as they arise will be important to the overall health of each property managed by the plant health care specialist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform tree and ornamental tree treatment applications in accordance with industry standards.
  • Assure quality applications in a timely manner and proactively inspect the plant material for current and potential pests.
  • Identify and communicate possible insects and diseases on a variety of trees and ornamentals.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time, including in inclement weather. This will involve standing, kneeling, entering/exiting vehicles, and assisting with cleanup of job sites.
  • Ability to work a varied time schedule according to seasonal requirements including Saturdays.
  • Practice safe, productive, and quality work done around each property.
  • Attending to details through proper tree evaluations, job site hazards, and pre-trip/post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain a daily routine to keep a work vehicle clean, organized, and in operational condition.
  • Tools assigned to each truck should be inventoried and in operational condition.
  • Participate in the Plant Health Care department meetings.
  • Be willing to work within other departments when the Plant Health Care workloads are minimal. This could include leaf/brush collection, mowing, holiday lighting, snow removal, etc.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • One year of tree care and/or Plant Health Care application services.
  • Valid Illinois drivers’ license.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Be able to calculate the needed material and tools for each specific application.
  • Lifting or dragging up to 70 lbs. will be required.
  • Current state of Illinois commercial applicators license or obtain within a specified time frame.
  • Illinois class C CDL driver’s license, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of being hired.
  • ISA Certified Arborist (Preferred) – ability to obtain within a specified time frame.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
