Summary

**This position is eligible for up to a $21,000 sign on bonus**

The Graduate Nurse demonstrates excellent customer service skills in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of MyMichigan Health. This individual works under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) mentor while carrying out designated skills that she/he has acquired in educational programs and/or orientation. The Graduate Nurse is not permitted to pass medications until licensure has been granted by the State of Michigan.

Responsibilities

The Graduate Nurse, while providing direct patient care, functions under the direct supervision, direction and delegation of the RN mentor.

(30%)* Patient Care :

Provides nursing care under the direction of the RN mentor using the Nursing Process.

P rioritizes/organizes delegated patient care assignments.

Accountable for all patient care assignments and documentation of all interventions.

P erforms technical nursing skills as outlined in standards and procedures manual and as described by unit-specific competencies.

E ngages in reinforcement of patient/family teaching as delegated by the RN mentor.

E ncouraged to be proactive in seeking learning opportunities.

C ompletes orientation.

C are planning for the shift with the RN mentor.

I dentifies and communicates changes in the patient's condition to the RN mentor.

D emonstrates a positive personal approach and interaction with others.

( 20%)* Unit Responsibilities:

M aintains clean, safe patient care area.

H andles equipment appropriately. Returns equipment to proper place after its use. Asks questions about its use when necessary.

C onsiders cost in using supplies for patient care.

A ssists with completing patient census correctly.

( 20%)* Personal Responsibilities:

D emonstrates ability to give care cooperatively with other patient care team members.

A ctively participates in quality management and continuing education. Updates and maintains knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the area of practice and age(s) of patient population.

P resents a clean and neat appearance according to the organizational dress code.

O THER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates the ability to interpret information and reports pertinent data to the physician, including pertinent clinical information.

A ssess learning needs considering readiness, ability, preferences, and cultural / spiritual variables

P rovide education to meet the individual needs and ability to learn.

P articipates in care conferences as assigned.

D evelops and maintains good working rapport with interdisciplinary personnel to meet the needs of each resident.

Demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize the needs of groups of patients or an individual patient.

D emonstrates a general ability to manage assignments and perform routine duties on the unit.

I mplements clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies and procedures.

D emonstrates understanding of clinical pathways and utilizes appropriately.

R emains calm and efficient when working in stressful situations.

D ocuments in an accurate, clear, and concise way and includes pertinent clinical data.

S hares information and reports significant changes and/or abnormal findings to appropriate team members.

P articipates in regulatory surveys.

P articipates in the performance improvement activities.

P rovides a safe and secure environment for patient care.

R emains current on new developments by reading professional journals, and attending seminars.

D emonstrates understanding of role in emergency preparedness procedure.

A ll other duties as assigned.

Certifications and Licensures

Credential:BLS: Basic Life Support
Equivalent Experience: Within 1 month of hire or transfer

Required Education

Graduate of a RN school of nursing program or currently completing final course work (i.e. leadership or equivalent) and waiting to take RN State Boards

R EQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

D emonstrates ongoing competency in selected psychomotor skills.

The Graduate Nurse has three months to take and pass the RN State Boards or may be separated from the Graduate Nurse position at the manager's discretion,

I nterpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

P HYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
