Position Function/Purpose To provide support for special population students to ensure that they graduate from high school and are prepared for workforce or post-secondary readiness. | |
Essential Functions 1. Lead in the development and implementation of a comprehensive campus plan to assist special education students and families with the students' plan for higher education. 2. Work with staff to identify special education students, establish contact with each student and their family, develop high school graduation plans focused on college preparation and monitor their progress. 3. Provide/arrange appropriate counseling, tutoring and mentoring interventions to enhance success in academics, testing and preparation/participation in higher education. 4. Coordinate efforts with MISD campuses and other districts to provide vertical alignment in services for special education students. 5. Assist students served through special programs in accessing educational opportunities. School/Community Relations 6. Work closely with parents, sharing information and conferencing regarding students’ academic progress and opportunities 7. Accurately represent the philosophy and policies of the Midland Independent School District 8. Cooperate with community, state and national agencies in providing education and awareness for the public. 9. Cooperate with campus administrators in providing chemical abuse education/awareness programs and information for the staff 10. Conduct in service training for MISD on related issues 11. Conduct education and awareness programs and seminars for the public 12. Exhibit a professional attitude and image to the public 13. Participate in campus Core Team meetings, as appropriate 14. Participate in ARD meetings as appropriate 15. Exercise initiative in finding innovative programs for use in the district Administration 16. Provide central office and principals with written progress reports on program implementation 17. Collect and report data to central office and campus principals 18. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district and campus regulations and policies 19. Demonstrate skill in planning and organizing 20. Demonstrate skill in appropriate record keeping 21. Demonstrate skill in implementation of programs Professional Development 22. Engage in professional growth through attendance at state, regional and/or district meetings and conferences 23. Engage in providing professional growth for others at the state and local levels. Other Duties Perform such other duties as may be assigned or necessary for job effectiveness QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 1. Strong communication and supervisory skills 2. Knowledge of special populations, ie. Special education, LEP 3. Knowledge of high school graduation plans, college admission requirements and concurrent/dual credit opportunities WORK ENVIRONMENT The environment characteristics described here are the representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Occasionally required to travel to facilities within the district. May be required to work after school and weekends.
