Mosquito Control Technician – Seasonal Employment
Protect your community from mosquitoes and make a difference in public health! If you enjoy working outdoors and have an interest in biology, environmental science, or public health, this seasonal 'Mosquito Control Technician' position is a great opportunity for you.
The Middlesex County Mosquito Extermination Commission (MCMEC) is hiring seasonal employees to assist in controlling mosquito populations for the upcoming season. We're looking for motivated, responsible individuals with a desire to be part of an environmentally conscious team serving Middlesex County residents. No prior experience is necessary – we'll provide comprehensive training!
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18-years old, possess a valid NJ driver's license with a clean record. Pass a pre-employment check. Previous coursework in biology or environmental science is a plus!
- Must obtain a NJDEP 'Pesticide Operator License' upon hire (We train!).
- Ability to work independently in various outdoor conditions.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including hot and humid temperatures.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols.
- Communicates effectively and works well with others. A willingness to learn and a positive attitude.
Work Schedule and Pay:
- Workweek 35-40 hours: Monday to Friday (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
- The hourly rate is $16.00.
- The season is approximately May through September.
Locations: You may be assigned to work at either:
- Edison: 200 Parsonage Rd. Edison, NJ 08837
- South Brunswick: 81 Broadway Rd, South Brunswick, NJ 08512.
Job duties (include, but are not limited to):
- Under supervision of Supervisor, perform inspections of mosquito habitats in assigned zones in various locations (urban & woodlands) - like wetlands, marshes, swamps, ditches, man-made containers, etc. Collect mosquito samples for further evaluation.
- Apply insecticides to mosquito habitats to control mosquito larvae in accordance with established protocols. Setup mosquito traps targeting specific areas with high mosquito activity.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, treatments, and findings.
- Perform basic equipment and facility maintenance activities including manual labor.
- Assist with other mosquito control activities as needed potentially including public education initiatives or research projects.
