Mid-State Industrial Maintenance is Hiring an Industrial painter Near Lakeland, FL

Industrial Painter / Sandblaster

Essential Duties

  • Set up portable equipment, such as ventilators, exhaust units, ladders, or scaffolding.
  • Operate lifting or moving devices to move equipment or materials to access areas to be painted.
  • Remove grease, dirt, paint, or rust from surfaces in preparation for paint application, using abrasives, solvents, brushes, blowtorches, washing tanks, or sandblasters.
  • Fill small dents or scratches with body fillers and smooth surfaces to prepare materials for painting.
  • Apply rust-resistant undercoats and caulk and seal seams.
  • Layout logos, symbols, or designs on painted surfaces, according to blueprint specifications, using measuring instruments, stencils, or patterns.
  • Must know how to hook up and disconnect equipment, regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through the nozzle or into tumbling barrel.
  • Masks specified areas object to protect from abrading action.
  • Select paint according to company requirements and match paint colors, following specified color charts.
  • Pour paint into spray guns and adjust nozzles and paint mixes for proper paint flow and coating thickness.
  • Verify paint consistency, using a viscosity meter.
  • Spray prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers and decorative or finish coatings.
  • Use brush to hand-paint areas in need of retouching or unreachable with a spray gun.
  • Monitor painting operations to identify flaws, such as blisters or streaks, and correct their causes.
  • Allow the sprayed product to dry and touch up any missed spots.
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers or power equipment, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths.
  • Clean equipment and work areas.
  • May examine finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications
  • Dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner.
  • Forklift experience is a plus
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications

  • 1-year experience in Sandblasting and / or Industrial Painting a plus
  • Employee must be dependable and capable of working long hours.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Attention to Detail - Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Cooperation - Job requires being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude.

  • This is a non-exempt position.
  • This position reports to the Paint Shop Foreman
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.

Physical Requirements / Working Environment

  • Location is in Lakeland, Florida.
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary (Monday Sunday) and overtime is frequently required.
  • Working environment is in an industrial shop; non-climate controlled and is oftentimes hot / humid. Frequent exposure to moving equipment, machines and shop tools, and other safety-sensitive hazards / risks.

Must always be alert and able to safely perform the essential duties of the job without risking harm to oneself or others.

  • While performing the duties of this job, you will :
  • Frequently use hands and arms in handling, moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Routinely perform physical activities that require use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as lifting, balancing, walking, and stooping. Occasional climbing.
