    DISTRICT OVERVIEW
    Saginaw Township Schools is located in a multi-cultural and vibrant community in mid-Michigan. We are proud to have ‘National School to Watch’ and ‘Blue Ribbon Award’ winning schools.
    Position Overview:
    This position is 6 hours daily, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch during regular school days.
    Daily work schedule is based on building assignments.
    Total number of workdays may vary based on building assignment with ranges between 184-186 per school year (August - May).
    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Assist small groups and individual students in reinforcing skills in core curriculum areas initially introduced by the teacher.
    • Guide students in independent study designed by the teacher.
    • Organize instruction and learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes
    • Employ strategies congruent with planned student outcomes
    • Monitor student learning and pace/adjust instruction accordingly
    • Maintain appropriate records of student performance
    • May administer diagnostic tests
    • Assist teacher in preparing lessons and materials to support identified students in identified areas, and delivery of the same
    • Meet and plan with classroom teachers and other staff
    • Assist teacher with student record keeping.
    • Daily in-person attendance required.
    • Participate in professional development programs.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Must have/obtained GED or High School Diploma.
    • Meet No Child Left Behind criteria for support personnel, which includes graduation from an accredited high school or the equivalent, and 60 or more semester hours of college credit. In lieu of 60 semester hours one can have an associate's degree or higher; or pass the MTCC (Michigan Test for Teacher Certification, either the current Professional Readiness Exam or the original Basic Skills Test); or have the ETS Parapro Assessment with a passing score of 460 or more. [In some cases, certain passing scores in the older version of WorkKeys or certain scores on certain sections of the SAT may be used. Please indicate on your application if you think you qualify this way.] Teacher certification highly desirable.
    • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with a variety of medical and physical needs of students.
    • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
    • Ability to work with emotionally, physically and/or mentally impared students.
    • Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
    • Demonstrates a command of oral and written English language.
    • Ability to communicate and work effectively with employees, students and the general public.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage instructional tasks efficiently.
    • Capable of handling confidential information.
    • Has a good work ethic and attendance record
    • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge.
    • Demonstrates problem solving and good communication skills: speaking, listening, and writing.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teacher.
    • Able to attend employer provided professional development, learn a variety of procedures, and implement those procedures. This may include in training in CPR, Behavior Management, First Aid, Universal Precautions, Crisis Prevention Intervention as well as other professional development.
    Salary and Benefits:
    Pay as provided in the Secretarial Collective Bargaining Agreement STEOP.
    Current hourly rates range reflects a recent wage reopener increase: Starting at $12.9458 to $17.8612.
    An additional $0.80/hour for 60 or more semester credit hours (college).
