    QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Master Degree in Social Work and Full State Approval. Previous experience with child/adolescent group counseling, disabled students, their related educational needs and IEPT mandates. Demonstrated ability in oral and written communications. Demonstrate initiative and understanding in working with students, staff and parents/guardians. Ability to make decisions in accordance with procedures with minimum direction.
    Demonstrate effective time management skills to meet duties with minimum direction.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    The School Social Worker assists the educational institution in providing an emotionally stable environment for all its students and staff. The social worker is mandated by the State of Michigan to provide evaluative expertise for students suspected as having an Emotional Impairment and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Additionally, the School Social Worker provides support, guidance, and directions to parents of students in conflict. The School Social Worker assists teachers and staff to work effectively with special needs students, in both special and general education.
    The Social Worker brings to the educational institution knowledge and understanding of the systems that impact the individual and family. The knowledge offered will aid the educational system in diagnosing problems and offering direction to solve those problems. This requires a knowledge of diagnostic procedures and eligibility categories, the educational process, ability to service staff and students, and knowledge of systems outside education to assist the student, family and community.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Conduct evaluations of students suspected of being Emotionally Impaired and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Provide written report to MET. Provide written reports as part of the multi-disciplinary team (MET) meetings and Individualized Educational Planning Team meetings (IEPT) per department procedures.
    • Conduct three year re-evaluations of students with Emotional Impairment and provide written report to MET. Provide written statement for three year re-evaluation of students on caseload with disabilities other than Emotionally Impaired (i.e. POHI, LD, etc).
    • Maintain time-lines according to IDEA, Michigan Special Education Administrative Rules and direction of the district.
    • Keep appropriate records on all students on a social work caseload.
    • Attend MET meetings and IEPT’s student staffings, parent meetings, Diagnostic Team meetings, Child Study Teams, Consultation, Needs Assessment, LSIP and staff meetings.
    • Work individually or in small groups with students, teachers or administrators.
    • Work with parents toward improving home situations which may affect behavior, attendance, or interest in school.
    • Work cooperatively with other special education staff members to help determine eligibility for programs and services.
    • Act to mobilize programs in the school or community affecting students or services to them. Coordinate services provided to students by school personnel and community agencies.
    • Consult with staff and administration regarding such issues as student programming, Behavior Improvement Plans, Functional Behavior Assessments, main-streaming, inclusion, interventions & all other areas associated with effective quality program design & delivery.
    • Additional duties as determined or assigned by the Director of Special Education.
    • The ability to work cooperatively with other Diagnostic staff (Psychologists, Speech Therapists, Special Education Teachers.
