    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Associate's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, Counseling or a related field. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
    2. Two years experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
    3. Knowledge of Michigan Department Human Services regulations and Child Protection Act.
    4. Knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start progam structure and function preferred with the ability to follow Head Start Performance Standards.
    5. Demonstrated computer and keyboarding skills to effectively use software products to facilitate lesson plans, assessments, program reports, and word processing.
    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
    1. Ability to read, speak, and write with proficiency in English language.
    2. Ability to communicate effectively and positively with persons from diverse backgrounds.
    3. Warm, personal qualities of a reaching, helping, caring nature.
    4. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
    CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
    1. Department of Health and Human Services Central Registry Clearance documentation. Must be free of any substantiated child abuse and neglect charges per the Department of Health and Human Services.
    2. Criminal background and fingerprinting checks as required by licensing requirements and program.
    3. Valid Michigan Driver's License & valid vehicle insurance.
    4. Valid Chauffer's License (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
    5. Current First Aid/CPR (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
    6. Current physical examination including tuberculosis test and other Head Start mandated health requirements.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    1. Available to travel to out-of-town training and be away from home for two (2) or more nights.
    2. Ability to work flexible hours and set schedules according to program and family needs. Some evenings will be required.
    3. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, carry materials, and sit for extended periods of time. Ability to work in moderate noise and to work indoors and outdoors. Dexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate activities and prepare materials.
    MENTAL DEMANDS:
    1. Job requires mental altertness.
    2. Ability to anticipate possible crisis situations and deal with them effectively.
    3. Ability to handle stress and be flexible.
    4. Ability to use good judgement with at-risk client populations.
    WORK YEAR:
    48 weeks / 37.5 hours per week
    ANNUAL SALARY:
    $21.54 per hour. Based upon availability of Federal funding.

    All newly hired employees MUST satisfactorily pass:

    2. Police Clearance including Digital Fingerprinting (Live Scan)
    3. Drug Test
