Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency is Hiring a Staff Development Coach and Onboarding Specialist Near Mount Juliet, TN

Job description

The Staff Development Coach and Onboarding Specialist is responsible for the selection, orientation, training, and mentoring of the staff in Head Start/Early Head Start Centers in the Mid-Cumberland Head Start/Early Head Start Program.

SPECIFIC DUTIES OF THE JOB:

1. Provides leadership, training, monitoring and assistance necessary for the Head Start/Early Head Start education service component to assure delivery of Head Start/Early Head Start services in compliance with program and personnel policies and procedures.

2. Participates in interviews for new Early Head Start and Head Start staff.

3. Plans, organizes and conducts the orientation of new staff, working closely with education team to ensure DHS licensing rules, Head Start Performance Standards and MCCAA procedures are embedded in the orientation trainings.

4. Assesses the need for, develops schedules, arranges for, and provides training and technical assistance for staff to assure component service delivery and integration and appropriate documentation in compliance with the programs policies and procedures and the Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards.

5. Coach and Mentor classroom staff development, monitor progress toward program and staff goals. Provides constructive feedback and support for the purpose of increasing confidence and competence of staff. This includes modeling, co-teaching, observations, and providing reading materials and other resources as needed.

6. Provides follow-up support to staff following any form of training for the purpose of increasing implementation of information and transfer of skill into practice.

7. Participates in on-going professional development for the purpose of providing effective coaching/mentoring activities that support child development.

8. Conduct center observations to promote developmental appropriate practices, sound program approaches to delivery of services. Allows teachers and assistants to observe him/her and other classroom staff, offers support, and leads discussions on what was demonstrated.

9. Provides guidance regarding classroom /time management, discipline, scheduling, planning and organizing the day.

10. Maintains cooperative attitude of working together with the teacher, classroom staff, volunteers, and parents, management staff in planning and implementing classroom activities, consistent with the curriculum guide, resources and training provided.

11. Administer the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) at least twice a year and analyze ongoing assessment data with the education team to measure and improve Child Outcomes for the program.

12. Provide one-to-one mentor coaching strategies for improving teacher-child interactions and how to work with culturally, linguistically and developmentally diverse groups.

13. Supports teachers with the development, coordination and delivery of curricula and other educational activities for each classroom. Ensure that lessons and activities meet the needs of the children.

14. Submit all required reports and related data to the Staff Development and Training Coordinator.

15. Ensure all classrooms meet safety and health regulations for compliance and/or report identified problems to supervisor and/or Education Manager.

16. Coach, Model, Mentor and Support teachers by observing, assessing, evaluating, documenting and referring children in accordance with established policies and procedures.

17. Serve as a role model for parents, staff and volunteers by utilizing proper techniques in redirections, modeling, appropriate language, correct discipline, displaying positive interactions with children and other adults on a daily basis.

18. Coach, Model, Mentor and Support teachers with implementing classroom activities utilizing strategies to develop physical, social, emotional and cognitive development and in implementing cultural diversity and individual strengths of all staff.

19. Ensures all staff complete Professional Development Plan.

20. Serves as an advocate for Head Start families when necessary.

21. Completes, conducts, and manages special projects and assignments delegated by the Systems & Staff Development Administrator to assist in the operation of the program.

22. Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.

23. Attend and participate in meetings, work groups, team meetings, committees, workshops, individual training and training conferences as assigned, which may include local, state, regional and national groups. This includes attending pre-service and in-service training.

24. Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency. Submit necessary documents to Finance Department.

25. Comply with Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency Policies and Procedures, all Head Start Performance Standards, and Mid-Cumberland Head Start Operations Manual, and other applicable Early Childhood Standards such as DHS Licensing Standards, CACFP, TN Department of Health, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.

26. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: B.A. or B.S. in Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of three years in training, early childhood service delivery, or a related field with at least one year previous Head Start experience preferred.
