Microsoft Legal Department is Hiring a Remote UX Researcher

Job Duties

Microsoft Corporation has the following job opportunity: Contribute to product and service solutions that achieve desired consumer, business, and organizational outcomes. Use a broad range of qualitative and quantitative research methods, including generative and evaluative research studies. Evaluate customer insights, identify opportunities, and help develop, iterate, and operationalize solutions to achieve effective designs and environments. Collaborate with cross functional teams throughout all phases of the product development and servicing lifecycles to ensure the right data is being collected to positively impact the product direction. Conduct mixed methods research to inform product design, which may include usability studies, heuristic evaluations, interviews, contextual inquiry, focus groups, surveys, user journey maps, UX health studies, and personas. Identify, promote, and pursue research opportunities that help Microsoft maintain its competitive edge and produce world-class technologies. Telecommuting permitted 100% from any location within mainland U.S. Requires domestic and international travel up to 25%.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Industrial Design, Computer Interaction, Human Computer Interaction, Integrated Innovation, or a related field.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience conducting qualitative and/or quantitative research on user behaviors and/or interaction experience for the design of technologies.
  • Alternate Requirements: Ph.D or foreign equivalent degree in Industrial Design, Computer Interaction, Human Computer Interaction, Integrated Innovation, or a related field and 6 months of experience conducting qualitative and/or quantitative research on user behaviors and/or interaction experience for the design of technologies.
  • Specific Skills Requirements: Requires at least 6 months of experience in each of the following: Human-Computer Interaction; Human Factors; and Research Methods; and education or experience in each of the following: Usability Engineering; Design Thinking; Information Visualization; and Cognitive Engineering.

Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.

Pay Range and Benefits Information

The offered base pay range for this specific position (job code: TSKBW17217c), based in Redmond, WA (but telecommuting permitted 100% from any location in the mainland U.S.), is $155,000 to $185,000.

Microsoft has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.

At Microsoft certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus, and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role. Benefits/perks listed may vary depending on the nature of employment with Microsoft and the country work location. U.S.-based employees have access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and wellbeing benefits, among others. U.S.-based employees also receive, per calendar year, up to 10 scheduled paid holidays, and up to 80 hours Holistic Health Time Off. Additionally, hourly/non-exempt employees accrue up to 120 hours paid vacation time, and salaried/exempt employees have Discretionary Time Off (DTO).
