Job Description: Microchip has an opportunity for a Senior Engineer I-Environmental/Safety (Senior Safety Engineer I) in the Environmental Health and Safety department at our Fab 4 facility in Gresham, Oregon. This position will develop, coordinate and perform various safety and industrial hygiene functions critical to the operation and support of a mature semiconductor manufacturing facility undergoing major construction projects. They will partner with Facilities, Manufacturing, Engineering, Human Resources and other organizations to provide technical support and coordination of overall health and safety compliance, implementation of health and safety policies and procedures and training consistent with Microchip policies and guiding values. They will maintain effective relationships with contractors, employees and plant management. Essential Functions Be a proponent for a safe/incident free working environment and assist in shift safety communication sessions and preparation for material used in such sessions. Interface with engineers, contractors and a variety of facility personnel on a daily basis toprovide guidance and technical support. Actively engage in site operations to proactively understand site operations and prevent safety related issues. Provide training in policies and procedures and communicate with new hires, employees and contractors to ensure compliance regarding safety and health initiatives. Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team and Medical Emergency Response Team, including 24-hour HAZWOPER training and maintaining training compliance for the team. Work with construction contractors on setting up pre-task plans, reviewing and approving work permits, inspecting work areas, developing processes and procedures for safe work practices, and accident investigation. Participate in inspections and assessments and follow up actions on audit findings and corrective actions. Assist with injury tracking and reporting. Perform incident investigations and determine root cause(s) and implement corrective actions in a team environment. Work with project teams on hazard identification, evaluation and control and appropriate risk assessments and mitigation. Manage safety/IH equipment and supplies. Support and maintain safety programs including but not limited to: Hazardous Communication Program o Hazardous Communication Program o Hot Work Procedures and Permits o Confined Space Permits o Hearing Conservation o Lockout – Tagout Program o Electrical Safety Program o Respiratory Protection o Fire Prevention Plan o Fall Protection o Radiation Safety o Personal Protection Equipment Program o Safety Committee Requirements/Qualifications: Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or Science discipline 5-7 years of experience with OSHA safety compliance programs including Hazard Communication, Emergency Response, Lockout/Tagout, etc. Basic knowledge of chemistry. Team player. Professional, respectful, and accountable to colleagues, internal customers, and external customers. Ability to take initiative and ownership Ability to work independently, manage numerous projects and have excellent prioritization skills. Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and codes impacting facilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent presentation skills Proficient with MS Office products Preferred Qualifications Semiconductor, technology and/or manufacturing experience Experience in training presentation Experience in industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring equipment Special Requirements ERT participation Ability to pass a Physical and Respirator Fit Test Flexible work schedule for occasional training and project support Critical Physical Requirements Able to lift, push, pull 25 lbs; carry 25 lbs; sit 40%; stand 30%; walk 30%; must be able to perform activities that include stooping, reaching, handling, thinking, hearing, talking, seeing, work alone, work around others.
