Michigan Works Southeast is Hiring a Business Services Coordinator Near Ann Arbor, MI

Job Title: Business Services Coordinator - 2 openings available
Location: Michigan Works! Southeast - Washtenaw Service Center
Reports to: Business Services Manager
Supervises: N/A
FLSA Status: Full-time, Non-exempt
Job SummaryThe Business Services Coordinator (BSC) develops, establishes and maintains working relationships with employers and partners in their local community. The BSC assists employers to build a skilled workforce by actively engaging with them to meet their comprehensive employment demands including assisting with talent recruitment, candidate pre-screening, workforce assessment profiles, business attraction, staff training/development, retention, layoff aversion and other support services. Works to understand the workforce development needs of business partners and facilitates in the delivery of applicable available workforce tools, such as Apprenticeships, OJT, IWT, GPTF grants, local employer of the day events and Corporate Assistance Program (CAP) services. Actively seeks out new business partnerships in their local community and expands the presence/availability of MWSE business services. Supports the efforts of Business Services Specialist in the development of industry collaboratives.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Proactively seeks out and builds new business partnerships
  • Serves as primary county liaison for MWSE Business Services
  • Partners with MWSE Service Center employees to provide high quality services that achieves program goals and benchmarks including connecting job seekers with hiring businesses and coordinating grant services and approvals
  • Promotes and administers all Incumbent Worker (IWT), On the Job Training (OJT), Going PRO Talent Fund. Customized Training and other applicable programs/contracts with employers
  • Supports the BST Analyst in the annual implementation the Going Pro Talent Fund (GPTF) grant program
  • Conducts regular “retention visits with existing business partners; meets with and follows up with employers to discuss projects, goals, organization challenges and identify solutions
  • Performs workforce assessments
  • Analyzes employer demands/needs and develops an action plan to support and service partner business(s)
  • Leverages partnerships and resources to maximize and meet employer demand
  • Coordinates with local and state partners to administer programs and services.
  • Assists the BSC Specialist in the facilitation and development of employer apprenticeship and intern programs
  • Assists employers with the attraction, vetting, hiring, retention of workforce talent, job descriptions resume sorting and other HR/Employment services
  • Evaluates candidate referred from career advisors
  • Monitors and evaluates labor pool
  • Records and maintains employer information in a database system
  • Plans, coordinates and hosts small venue job hiring, employer of the day events
  • Coordinates onsite employer interviewing
  • Partners with BSC Specialist with the identification and development of long-term TPM/WFD sector collaborative projects
  • Assists with Rapid Response to layoffs and closures
  • Presents programs on business services and other workforce issues to employer associations, community partners and other organizations
  • Participates in community outreach and talent recruitment events
  • Participates in community events and organizations to maximize networking opportunities
  • Regularly travels throughout Michigan Works! Southeast region
  • Other duties as assigned
QualificationsAll agency team members are expected to be technically competent and committed to continuous development of their skills. The following skills, knowledge and education or certifications are specifically required for this position:
  • Associate’s degree or related experience, plus 2 years’ experience in business management or closely related field; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Business Solutions Professional certification preferred (if not, expected to complete within 12 months)
  • Experience working with federal and state regulations with respect to workforce development, employment and training programs and/or career and technical education programs
  • Knowledge and experience in operation of state and/or federal workforce activities
  • Experience working with boards, councils, committees and other public decision making bodies
  • Knowledge of the local community
  • Experience working in workforce development, community, public and non-profit organizations
Compensation: $19.62 to $26.15 per hour with an excellent benefit package including medical, dental, and optical insurance; paid holidays; paid time off; and 457 retirement savings with employer match.
