The Office of Risk Management and Insurance is seeking a motivated self-starter to serve an important role within a small team of professionals responsible for reducing risks and minimizing the impact of losses on individuals and the University. This is a career path position with opportunities for advancement. Specific job duties include, but are not limited to: creating reports and preparing studies based on claims and exposure data which serve as the basis for operational and financial decisions designed to reduce risks faced by the University; creating and modifying existing senior leadership reports and presentations to inform decision making on risk related issues; overseeing our external information technology services provider to support the risk management information system used by all unit members (service requests, system analysis for efficiency and improved functionality, user tools and customization, data integrity, Business Intelligence reporting, quality control, training, and future upgrades); coordinating unit IT needs (website maintenance, listserv maintenance, web & document accessibility, serve as the MSU IT Services liaison lead, and development and maintenance of all internal processes utilizing Microsoft Forms, Power Automate and Power Apps); course development and oversight in MSU’s Ability Learning Management System; completing critical internal department duties in a back-up staff role when necessary to ensure consistent and excellent service delivery to the campus community. This position is remote-friendly; with the expectation of on-Campus presence on a regular basis. This is typically referred to as Hybrid; with the flexibility of regular remote work mixed with in-office work as mutually agreed upon with the supervisor.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree program in business, finance, public administration, risk management or related field; one to two years of direct work experience in property or liability insurance underwriting, claims management, or risk management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require professional designation in insurance or claims such as an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Associate in Claims (AIC).
One to two years of work experience in a professional business setting; demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills; display of great attention to detail; ability to complete work accurately and efficiently; ability to work independently and collaboratively; strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines; excellent oral and written communication skills; dedication to continuous self-improvement. Direct work experience in risk management, claims management. Strong computer skills including advanced proficiency in Power Point, Excel and Microsoft Office 365 productivity tools including Forms and Power Automate.
