MUSKEGON AREA INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE : Career Exploration Specialist (6-8)

CLASSIFICATION : Professional

REPORTS TO : CCR Program Director

SUPERVISES : Not applicable

TERMS :

This position is a 200 total paid days position offering full family medical, dental, and vision benefits. Dental, vision, and life insurance are paid by the district at no cost to the employee.

Personal business days sick time paid. Retirement through the Office of Retirement Services (Pension Plus or Defined Contribution).

SALARY RANGE :

This position is on the School Year Professional Scale, $51497.734- $80067.1942 per year on the BA lane. Lanes available for BA 20, MA, MA 30, and MA 60.

GENERAL JOB FUNCTION : The Career Exploration Specialist will assist in effectively managing MAISD and local district efforts in creating a career and college ready culture.

This Career Exploration Specialist works to assist CCR leadership to implement best practices in schools to create greater postsecondary access for all.

The Career Exploration Specialist will be responsible for grade level specific support and guidance in the implementation of the Michigan Career Development Model, the MAISD Career Development for K-12 Menu and other adopted career development opportunities supported by the MAISD.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of the essential job functions and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently or within a team in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to organize short and long term duties and responsibilities is important. This position deals with a wide variety of tasks and requires good prioritization and organization.
  • Ability to manage a large number of students and multiple projects.
  • Ability to work with and demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population.
  • Familiarity with K-12, higher education, Career and College Readiness (CCR) & Promise Zone (PZ) legislation and postsecondary access practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) certified, or willingness to obtain one within one year.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional professional customer service.
  • Evidence of two or more years of successful experience advising or teaching youth, preferably middle school.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with K-12, higher education, business and employers.
  • Experience in developing presentations and / or workshops for community members, educators and or students & families.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Demonstrate and communicate a strong belief in the statewide vision for Career Development.
  • Assist in effectively managing MAISD and local district efforts in creating a college and career ready culture.
  • Provide career exploration content & grade level expertise at meetings or training.
  • Communicate and provide resources regarding current legislation, state policies, and issues and best practices for K-12 career development that impact students and schools.
  • Support and coach local districts with guidance regarding implementation of the Michigan Career Development Model (MCDM), MAISD Career Development for K-12 Menu, and the implementation of Educational Development Plans.
  • Support Career and College Readiness (CCR) leadership in the guidance for local districts to include CCR with their annual MI Continuous Improvement (MICIP) Goal Planning.
  • Collaborate with MAISD staff and programs, as well as community partners, in order to support identified district needs.
  • Support scheduled events / marketing for Career and College Readiness (CCR) and Promise Zone public relations.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.

NOTABLE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Some light lifting and general mobility may be required.

Most work is performed in a school office, classroom, student worksites, and event venues.

EVALUATION :

Employees in this classification are evaluated according to current Board policy.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS :

Travel both within the county and throughout the state is required. Mileage will be paid based on the current State rate.

This position is on the School Year Professional Scale of the MAISD salary scales.
