Michigan City Area Schools is Hiring a Head Boys Basketball Coach (2024-25 school year) Near Michigan, IN

General Purpose

Michigan City High School is seeking a Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach for the 2024-2025 season. The Head Coach is a key individual within the athletic program and the community of Michigan City. The Head Coach is responsible for the culture, budget, strategic planning, compliance, scholarships, promotion, and leadership of the football program.


Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the basketball program, K-12, with the assistance of the assistant coaches and provide guidance to all coaching staff
  • Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by the coaching staff.
  • Communicate with the Athletic Director
  • Maintains a system that monitors student academic performance and assists with college and career opportunities
  • Organize, plan, and coach all activities and practices
  • Attend all required Athletic Department, Duneland Athletic Conference and IHSAA meetings
  • Provides documentation in regard to physicals; consent; rosters; awards; eligibility; emergency medical forms; and any other required information in the time frame set forth by the Athletic Department
  • Complete the IHSAA/NFHS coach certification program
  • Lead fundraising efforts for the sports program
  • Assumes duties that the Athletic Director or Principal deems necessary for the improvement of the program
  • Be present at all practices and contests, providing assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant. Ensure that athletes are supervised at all times.
  • Will be accountable for all equipment and uniforms including the safety, inventory, and storage. Will be required to submit an annual update of inventory to the Athletic Department promptly after the season ends.
  • Follow all District, School, and Athletic Department policies and procedures.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Proven expertise in coaching at a high school level
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to lead in a diverse community
