TITLE: Summer KinderConnect Teacher (Pre K entering K)

REPORTS TO: Director of Elementary Instruction

SUPERVISES: Pre K entering K students

JOB GOAL: To support preschool students with foundational skills/school readiness skills needed to successfully transition into Kindergarten.

Selected summer school teachers will work with families to identify an educational delivery approach that accommodates the families of children in their districts. Screen time should be balanced with learning that occurs offline and encourages authentic and hands-on learning experiences. It is developmentally inappropriate to expect all learning to be screen based. All students will receive a learning kit prior to the start of camp.

Students will be engaged in interactive, meaningful literacy experiences through daily read alouds and shared readings. They will gain important pre-reading/writing concepts such as print awareness, phonological awareness, letter/sound knowledge, oral language, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing fluency.

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administering pre and post assessments
  • Planning and provide daily effective instructional activities/lessons for each day of camp
  • Planning appropriate instruction based on assessment/s and to support student need
  • Maintaining lesson plans
  • Providing activities (using the learning kits) that families can do with their children each week. Simple is best!
  • Establishing a consistent weekly check-in time (remote option) with each of the families. During this time the teacher is
available to answer questions, provide support, guidance and resources
  • Encouraging families to read daily with their children

It is imperative that chosen teachers are truly comfortable with the outlined learning plan and possess the energy and enthusiasm to make a difference in a short time. The social emotional development of all young children is the key to maximizing the benefits of educational experiences at any time. Ensuring children are supported emotionally during this time of uncertainty is the foundation of any instruction we may provide.
