Position Details

POSITION TITLE: School Based Mental Health Program Director

CLASSIFICATION: Administration/Non-Bargaining

DEPARTMENT: Special Education

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

SALARY: $88,443-$92,920 annually (Program Director Level 1) 31n Grant Funded

GENERAL SUMMARY: The educator in this position will assist the Saginaw ISD Special Education and Instructional Services Departments in the coordination and oversight of School Based Mental Health Services across the Saginaw ISD and will be responsible for the oversight of mental health-related grants (31n, 31p, 31aa, 31o, etc.) and Mental Health Practitioners. The person in this position must be collaborative and centered on student success. In addition to the coordination of services, this individual will be responsible for collaboration with other local, regional and state partners in order to promote robust mental health support for students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in an education-related field or Master’s of Public Health.
  • One of the following credentials are preferred:
    • A psychiatrist;
    • A licensed master’s level psychologist;
    • A limited licensed master’s level psychologist, under the supervision of a licensed master’s level psychologist;
    • A MDE credentialed master’s level school psychologist;
    • A licensed master’s level marriage and family therapist;
    • A licensed master’s level professional counselor;
    • A limited licensed master’s level professional counselor, under the supervision of a licensed master’s level professional counselor;
    • A licensed master’s level social worker;
    • A licensed master’s level school social worker;
    • A limited licensed master’s level social worker, under the supervision of a licensed master’s level social worker.
    • Board Certified Behavior Analyst
  • School Administrator Certification or ability to obtain in 3 years, required
  • Knowledgeable regarding the use of positive behavior support and inclusion strategies
  • Possess competency in the teaching of social and self-regulation skills to school-age population
  • Educational background and/or work history in adverse childhood experiences, therapy, and/or crisis intervention
  • Training in school-based risk and threat assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative manner with parents and professionals
  • Experience with coordination of mental health services between schools and community agencies

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Facilitate training for universal mental health screenings to support providers at the school level, conduct additional assessments and triage students for further follow-up as required
  • Ensure the development of plans of care for individual students meeting eligibility criteria for school-based mental health supports
  • Oversee school-based mental health and initiatives on a countywide basis, including collaboration with Health resource advocates and Saginaw County Health Department
  • Support local education teams through school-based risk and threat assessment training and implementation
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with MDE for the 31n grant and manage 31n grant compliance activities to include Medicaid (C4S) billing, data management (Ed Plan/bhworks), and quality assurance for program implementation.
  • Provided programmatic oversight to 31n grant, including staff evaluations
  • Oversee 31n providers in implementing therapeutic practices aligned with student needs in the school setting through individual student support, small group interventions, staff training and support and community outreach
  • Serve on SISD Behavior Support Network
  • Serve as regional liaison between school and parents and model problem-solving skills to resolve conflict between home, school, and community
  • As needed, become a trainer in school-based mental health and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) related topics and provide professional learning to regional staff, parents, and community-based partners
  • Serve as a liaison to other mental health providers in the community and state to assist in the coordination of referrals and diagnostic services outside the scope of school-based services
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:

  • Background in creating and evaluating successful educational and training programs.
  • Working knowledge of education law
  • Strong knowledge base of researched based interventions for TIER 1-3 and Special Education Behavioral Supports
  • Experience training or presenting information to educators and administrators
  • Ability to develop training materials and conduct targeted and dynamic professional development
  • One-to-one educator coaching experience
  • Ability to access data from a variety of sources to assist with on-site technical assistance
  • Able to work independently, problem-solve, and find solutions to challenging situations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
