Hours: Fulltime Salary Position with Benefits

Begins July 1 – June 30 (44 week school year assignment)

Compensation: Commensurate with Experience

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :

Candidate must possess a MA Degree from an accredited college, administrator certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 3 years, valid teaching certification and at least 3 years proven experience in a school setting working with students and teachers.

SUMMARY:

The assistant principal provides assistance to the principal in all assigned activities at the school site with primary responsibilities in overseeing student attendance including student accountability and discipline. This person will provide support at building events, promote student achievement and assist in the school improvement and program evaluation process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Fulfills attendance responsibilities by enforcing compulsory attendance laws and regulations as provided by the MAISD
  • Assists in the implementation and updating of the school Anti-Bullying and Harassment policies
  • Participates in the operation of the Positive Behavior Support Team
  • Monitors at risk student behavior in compliance with the student handbook
  • Prepares all appropriate paperwork for student referrals
  • Identifies at risk students and coordinates strategies for their success
  • Displays confidence in using Microsoft Office, google suites and is competent in data entry
  • Coordinates services with the counseling staff to promote academic success for at risk students
  • Fosters good school-parent relations by maintaining communications relative to events, rules and regulations
  • Communicates effectively with teachers in dealing with student referrals and behavior issues
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop new initiatives to foster student/faculty interaction
  • Researches, recommends, develops, and implements new initiatives that strengthen student success
  • Chaperones and supports curricular and co-curricular programs, including family involvement activities, Back to School Night, Parent/Teacher Conferences, PTO meetings, assemblies, etc
  • Participates in building and district meetings including but not limited to School Improvement, PBS, administrative and school staff meetings, IEPs, principal meetings, etc.
  • Supports teachers in developing their leadership skills
  • Acts as a resource to teachers in their instructional practice, especially as it relates to issues of discipline, relationships with students, classroom management, and school culture
  • Works with team members to set clear, measureable, outcome-oriented academic goals for the year and assist in planning professional development opportunities around those goals
  • Provides leadership in other administrative areas with particular emphasis on security and safety of students
  • Monitors, facilitates, and refines crisis readiness procedures for staff, students, and parents
  • Supervises and assists staff in emergency situations
  • Serves as a resource person to staff regarding policy, procedure, and special situations
  • Conducts personnel walk-throughs and evaluations under the direction of the building administrator
  • Assists with supervision of support staff
  • Serves as the building supervisor in the absence of the building administrator
  • Assists in completion of required reports
  • Assists in creating building schedules
  • Performs other duties as directed by the principal and district’s superintendent

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate desired
  • Valid Administrator Certificate preferred or willing to obtain

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    • Ability to read and interpret documents commensurate with the level of the position
    • Competency in writing routine reports and correspondence
    • Ability to speak effectively with administrators, staff, parents, students and community members.

      MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

      Operates within the constraints of a budget and adheres to budget procedures

      REASONING ABILITY:

      • Ability to solve problems in an effective manner
      • Ability to facilitate problem solving competencies effectively
      • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

        COMPUTER SKILLS:

        • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
        • Understanding of Google Mail and Google Documents
        • Ability to access, interpret, and apply student achievement data

          PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

          • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the field of education
          • Ability to work cooperatively faculty, students and parents
          • Must have strong organizational and administrative skills
          • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner

The employee will frequently work irregular and extended work hours while performing the duties of this job, evenings included. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, and work output of students.
