POSITION SUMMARY: As a key member of the District’s instructional leadership team, the Director of Elementary Education cooperates with other district administrators in providing strategic direction and implementing systemic improvement in MTSS, curriculum, instruction, assessment, school improvement initiatives, professional development, and serve as a program and instructional coach.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Master’s degree in Education.
  • Current Michigan Administration Certificate.
  • Minimum of three years of successful administrative experience.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
  • Successful experience and/or skill in instructional coaching.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in curriculum development, alignment, and instruction.
  • Proven leadership in initiating and implementing school and district improvement goals.
  • Knowledge and experience with MTSS and PBIS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
  • Must be familiar with State and Federal Special Education rules and regulations.

    ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:

    • Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community.
    • Proven track record in using best practice instructional methods, integrating technology in the classroom, and analyzing and using data to improve instruction.
    • Experience in planning and presenting staff development for teachers and support staff.
    • Strong competency and familiarity with emerging technologies and their instructional management applications.
    • Ability to build professional coaching relationships, solve problems, plan collaboratively, and provide feedback effectively
    • Demonstrated skills in working with adult learners including establishing effective working relationships.
    • Knowledge of elementary curriculum (Bridges Math, Reading Wonders, ECRI, UFLI, Mystery Science, Writing Revolution, Second Steps)
    • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data.
    • Lifelong learner, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and patient

      Must have fingerprints scanned electronically and submitted to Michigan State Police prior to hiring.

      RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Participates fully in the development, design, and implementation of a student-centered district.
      • Provides leadership in innovation and change to maximize results. Supervises and supports the implementation of curriculum and research-based instructional practices in PK – 5th grade programs.
      • Works with the district administration team and teachers on an ongoing basis to analyze student performance and other evidence of learning to determine student needs in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
      • Works with principals and teachers to design engaging work for students.
      • Administer selection process for the adoption and implementation of Tier I and Tier II resources.
      • Develop systems and processes that ensure curriculum, instruction, MTSS, PBIS, and assessment practices and programs are aligned horizontally and vertically to eliminate redundancy and prevent gaps. Works with the Director of Secondary Education to ensure all instructional initiatives are aligned with PK-13 and in developing a PK-13 flow of educational experiences.
      • Assist with the recruitment, retention, and assignment of elementary staff including facilitation on coordination of teacher mentoring program.
      • Supervise and guide the instructional coaches who are assisting teachers in the improvement of instructional delivery, planning, and performance.
      • Organize and facilitate the implementation of Reading Plans (IRIPs)
      • Assists principals and other administrators in their efforts to run efficient and effective schools by serving as a resource person and problem-solver for students, teachers, parents, and community members.
      • Leads the elementary school improvement process and professional learning community through goal setting and implementation as well as data analysis for instructional improvement.
      • Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with district-level administration to evaluate, select, and implement instructional materials and educational resources.
      • Assists principals with the implementation of an evaluation system for certified and non-certified staff, both formative and summative.
      • Oversee the development, implementation, communication, and monitoring of professional development for all elementary instructional personnel. Evaluates the results of professional learning programs to determine the effectiveness of deepening educator content knowledge, improving educator pedagogical skills, and/or increasing student learning.
      • Develop a culture that supports growth, risk-taking, and reflection.
      • Maintain current knowledge of effective instructional and coaching pedagogies, and stay abreast of current technology trends, teaching strategies, and educational best practices.
      • Regularly evaluates and reflects on professional practice and dispositions to improve and strengthen the ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning experiences.
      • Formulates proposals for revision and development of Board policies related to elementary education.
      • In collaboration with the Director of Secondary education, provide oversight and administration of State and federal grant programs.
      • Be visible and available within the buildings including at district and community functions to support the efforts of our students and staff.
      Serves as a positive example to others and promotes the mission, vision, and principles of the district.

      TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is full-time with a 215-day contract. Salary range for a 215-day contract – $85,000 – $100,000 based on experience and qualifications.
