The Position

Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is seeking an Immigration Paralegal with at least 1 year of experience in Immigration. This position is great for someone interested in the law and legal process around immigration and someone who is great at multitasking, detail oriented, comfortable with a fast-paced, high volume case load, and has strong communication skills.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing caseload intakes and filing documents, handling permanent residency cases, preparing non-immigrant visa petition packages for review and filing, and responding to immigration inquiries. This role can be located in one of our Milwaukee, Madison, Waukesha, WI or Chicago, IL offices. Remote work is available up to 2 days per week. Part-time candidates are welcome to apply.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:

  • Non-immigrant (H-1B, L-1, TN) and immigrant (PERM, 1-140, I-485) cases;
  • Naturalization filings;
  • Immigration case management;
  • Preparation of labor certification applications and a variety of business immigration filings with both consular posts and SCIS (e.g., E, L, TN, Adjustment of Status, Immigrant Visa)

This position is an essential part of Michael Best’s Immigration team. Primary duties will include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Prepare nonimmigrant and immigrant petitions and applications for attorney and client review (e.g., submission letters, immigration-related forms, supporting documentation);
  • Writing and research for petitions including specialty occupation H-1Bs, and L-1 intracompany transferee cases, as well as responses to requests for evidence for attorney review;
  • Manage heavy client caseload, including case preparation, client email correspondence, and client status calls;
  • Communication with government agencies—such as the Department of Homeland Security and Department of State
  • - to check status, as necessary;
  • Creation and maintenance of client status reports;
  • Evaluate cases, relays concerns, and proactively escalates to the appropriate team members(s);
  • Prepare forms, letters, documents and correspondence for attorney review;
  • Manage status of all filed applications and petitions and finalizes documents after attorney review;
  • Utilizes document and data management systems to prepare, monitor, and record all aspects of client casework

This position is available in our Milwaukee, Madison, Waukesha, or Chicago office. Remote work is available up to 2 days per week.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or a paralegal certificate from an ABA approved paralegal program
  • At least 1 year of employment-based immigration experience
