Job Summary

Provides clinical and professional services within the department. Responsible for the evaluation, reevaluation, development, and implementation of a plan of care.

Job Specific Duties

  • Assists the leader in the development and/or the sustaining of new or existing departmental procedures, programs and processes to ensure quality care, and to promote inpatient referrals.
  • Demonstrates evidence of internal and/or external collaboration (i.e., inclusive but not limited to consultations to physicians and other members of the patient care team from other departments/disciplines) with documentation of implemented outcome in process/program.
  • Assists leaders with the facilitation and coordination of in-services (within department and/or across service line) specific to evidenced-informed practices/literature review with a focus on clinical expertise.
  • Demonstrates knowledge translation of evidence based care through student education and supervision in the area of expertise.
  • Demonstrates knowledge translation of evidence based care through training of peers in the area of expertise.
  • Collaborates with and serves as a member of multidisciplinary teams, committees, and special projects to improve clinical workflow for inpatients utilizing process improvement strategies.
  • Assists the leader in the coordination of inpatient care and delivery models in compliance with evidenced based practices, processes, and protocols.
  • Assists leader in the completion of monthly chart reviews (12 unique medical records) of peers to ensure evidence-informed practice in area of expertise and works with leaders to address any deficiencies, which may include development and execution of a mentoring plan.
  • Maintains and documents productivity standards set by leaders.
  • Records daily patient documentation, statistics, and charges accurately and in a timely manner as determined by meeting departmental standards.
  • Ensures evaluations and daily documentation reflect evidence-informed practices in area of expertise (minimum of 3 unique medical record chart reviewed).
  • Assists patients and rehab staff with inpatient to outpatient transfers to support in access to care for outpatient rehab services and continuity of care post discharge.
  • Conducts and interprets evaluations based on patient's medical concerns, developmental age, diagnosis, and prognosis. Provides recommendations based on findings.
  • Maintains active and supportive communication with the patient, caregiver(s), and others regarding progress, problems, home programs, and other issues related to the therapeutic process.
  • Develops a plan of care outlining area of deficit, activity restrictions, context and assistance needed, and ensures functional, realistic, and measurable treatment goals and/or status of ongoing goals.
  • Recommends and provides treatments based upon medical, clinical, functional, and observational findings.
  • Initiates, documents, and prepares the patient/family for discharge at the time of the evaluation based on maximum potential or when benefit of therapy is reached.
  • Follows TRAAC and initiates, documents & prepares the patient/family for discharge at the time of the evaluation based on maximum potential and/or when benefit of therapy is reached.
  • Provides proof of at least 1 in-service specific to evidenced-based practices/literature review with a focus on clinical expertise.
  • Provides proof of at least 1 peer review (case study presentation) with focus on area of clinical expertise incorporating evidenced-based practices into treatment plan.
  • Maintains at least 50% or more hours of CEU transcript in area of expertise.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences & Disorders
  • Florida Speech Language Pathologist license - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • Level II Finger printing background and Good Moral Character Affidavit must be initiated within 15 days of hire date and finalized within 90 days of hire date
  • 5 years of pediatric (0 months to 21 years old) clinical experience (or) 4 years of pediatric clinical experience plus 1 year board certification in a relevant specialty area

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Pediatric Board Certification (in relevant specialty area) and/or Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Current membership in the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
  • A plus if individual has participated in research, program development, or teaching appointments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Analytical ability necessary to evaluate patient condition, to interpret and analyze data, assess patient progress, and determine appropriate follow-up.
  • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers.
