Employment Type: Part time Shift: 12 Hour Day Shift Description: Electrophysiology Cardiac Special Procedures Tech POSITION PURPOSE Scrubs and gowns for surgery to assist the cardiologist in all aspects of invasive cardiovascular procedures. Performs a variety of specialized and complex invasive and non-invasive cardiovascular procedures. Assists the cardiologist in all surgical and diagnostic procedures. Prepares patients and assists in monitoring the patient’s condition during invasive cardiovascular procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Functions as part of the cardiovascular lab team, assisting the cardiologist and team leader in the performance of routine cardiac diagnostic procedures and in minor surgical procedures. 2. Preps for incoming patients and compiles and summarizes patient histories from physician letters and notes. 3. Participates in both pre/post procedural time-outs as defined by WHO and hospital policy. 4. Assists in monitoring the patient’s condition during invasive cardiac procedures, and identifies and communicates deteriorating patient conditions to the team leader. 5. Involved in problem solving and calibration of monitoring equipment used during invasive cardiac procedures. 6. Scrubs for procedures/surgery and closely assists the cardiologist with invasive cardiovascular procedures, including manipulation of cardiac catheter and guide wire utilizing aseptic technique. 7. Prepares patients for cardiovascular procedures when necessary and transports patient to procedure room. 8. Receives request and schedules patients for specialized diagnostic procedures, arranging for patient transport to the procedural area and to a post procedure location. Relays patient report to pertinent nursing staff. 9. Administers routinely used procedural medications, contrast fluids, flush fluids, and emergent medications to patients under the supervision of a cardiologist. 10. Attends Cath Interventional Meetings, Department/Staff meetings, and/or Ground Rounds in line with ACC/SCAI requirements. 11. Assists in maintaining orderliness and cleanliness of patients and work area. Reports operational, functional, and system equipment problems to department manager and files the report. Assists in preparing, cleaning and sterilizing of disposable and continued-use supplies. 12. Provides accurate angiographic image identification, processes cine-angiographic images, and determines appropriate image quality control. Delivers images to appropriate location for interpretation and results. 13. Responsible for patient monitoring and procedure documentation. Accurately documents all aspects of procedures including inventory control. 14. Monitors to keep supplies current. 15. Provides relevant information necessary for patient billing. 16. Assist with patient and family education needs. 17. Participates in on-call schedule. 18. Maintain certification, meets CEU requirements, and stays current on cardiovascular scope. Cross-training between Cath/EP labs may be required. 19. Adheres to departmental policies, practices, and procedures. 20. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. 21. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. 22. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management. 23. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE 1. Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education in Cardiovascular Technology or related field required. 2. Minimum of one to two years experience in a cardiac catheterization laboratory. 3. RCIS/RCES Certification Required and be a current RCIS member. 4. BLS/ACLS Required. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES 1. Ability to recognize normal and abnormal ECG rhythms, ischemia and infarction patterns. 2. Understands basic concepts in aseptic technique. 3. Strong written and oral communication skills. 4. Must have strong organizational skills and able to prioritize. 5. Positive team player. 6. Has both team-building and leadership skills. 7. Critical thinking aptitude. 8. Mechanical/mathematical aptitude needed for calibration and operation of equipment. 9. Ability to interpret medical technology. 10. Knowledge of potential radiation hazards and appropriate safety practices and procedures. 11. Manual dexterity to assist during invasive procedures. 12. Analytical and clinical ability to monitor patient condition during cardiac procedure.
