MHANJ-Ocean is Hiring a Bilingual Recovery Specialist (MORE Project) Near Toms River, NJ

The Mental Health Association in New Jersey is a statewide non-profit organization with a strong history of providing direct services that focus on providing peer support to individuals & families dealing with mental health and substance use disorders through advocacy, education, training, and services.

MHAOC is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Ocean County Residents coping with behavioral health issues. The MORE Project (Mom’s Offering Recovery Experience), a part of MHAOC, provides FREE peer support services specifically tailored for moms in recovery. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by mothers, the MORE Project understands that being a mom can be tough, and the additional complexities of recovery can feel overwhelming.

Bilingual Recovery Specialist (MORE Project)

Bilingual Peer Recovery Specialist will use their lived experience of being a mom in recovery from addiction, to serve as a positive role model, providing participants with guidance and support to Spanish Speaking Participants. Understanding & recognizing the stigma & unique challenges faced by mothers along with the additional complexities of recovery. Services are delivered on an individual and/or group basis, promoting mind-body recovery and resiliency.

*This position requires work schedule flexibility - occasional nights/weekends in accordance with program needs*

Responsibilities to Include:

  •  Provide one to one peer support; focused on person centered goal plans in a non-clinical setting.
  •  Facilitate recovery groups to promote recovery & wellness.
  •  Heighten involvement and participation in the recovery community, specific to pregnant & parenting women.
  •  Advocacy within the community to assist in wellness & recovery plan.
  •  Use personal experience to enlighten, motivate, and offer effective coping skills & strategies.
  •  Transport participants, in company vehicle, when necessary.
  •  Community Outreach- raise awareness for The MORE Project/MHAOC by attending, participating, & collaborating with other providers/organizations- community events.
  •  Assist participant in developing recovery capital.
  •  Maintain confidential records and charts / Ensuring documentation is complete & accurate.
  •  Conveys a welcoming, empathic, hopeful attitude / Supports a philosophy of recovery.
  •  Knowledge of all aspects of MHAOC
  •  Any other duties that supervisor(s) deem appropriate.

Qualifications:

  •  Personal experience as a Mom with SUD
  •  Minimum of 2 years of Recovery
  •  Knowledge of Microsoft Office / Proficient Computer Skills
  •  CPRS Certification and/or CRSP Certification; but will train.
  •  Current or recent experience working in the behavioral health field is encouraged but not required.
  •  Bilingual (Spanish/English) Required.
  •  Knowledge of recovery-based concepts.
  •  Ability to work independently and as a valued team member.
  •  Ability to Present self in a positive manner and reflect the positive values of MHANJ and the MORE Project.
  •  Exhibits enthusiasm, respect, adaptability, flexibility, and spirit of cooperation in the work environment.
  •  A strong sense of, and respect for confidentiality.
  •  Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse individuals and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
  •  Good communication skills. Good organizational skills. Personal resilience.
  •  Valid NJ Driver’s License in good standing & reliable transportation.

Full Time / 35hrs (with benefits)

$16-$20 per hour based on experience & credentials

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 35 per week
