The Position:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experiencedRegistered Professional Foresterto join our team as a contractor/on-call for projects throughout the state! The ideal candidate will have a strong background in forestry management, with expertise in forest management, land planning, implementing, and monitoring forest management activities. This individual will play a key role in performing work for local, state, and federal stakeholders. Our Registered Professional Foresters may find themselves with the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects.Candidates should possess strong forestry expertise, regulatory knowledge, and communication skills. Timber Harvest Plans/Stewardship (IRSC):As an RPF your responsibilities include assessing forest areas, developing comprehensive harvest plans, ensuring regulatory compliance, and engaging stakeholders. The role involves supervising logging operations, monitoring environmental impacts, and maintaining detailed records.

Natural Resource Management: As an RPF, you will apply your knowledge and understanding of forestry, agriculture, and the natural and physical sciences to ensure that best management practices are being utilized at every opportunity. Your education, experience, and aptitude will provide multiple avenues to contribute and distinguish yourself by assessing land, soil, water, and other resources; analyzing the economic, environmental, and social footprint of natural resources; designing resource management strategies to improve the beneficial impacts.

Utility Vegetation Management:As an RPF, you will be involved with oversight of patrol and inspection of electrical distribution and transmission facilities, in all terrain and weather, according to a specified scope of work. You will be involved with documenting and abiding by programmatic BMPs and environmental resource protections while monitoring tree crews. 

MGE has endeavored to secure opportunities statewide and will continue to do so. Our goal is for every employee to be able to work near their home. Given the nature of our work, this is not always the case and weekly travel is often expected for the duration of the assigned project. In such instances, MGE will provide you with hotel accommodations and per diem. Extensive drive times are often required, and you may be called upon for overtime and emergency response work.

Project Locations:

Mountain Engineering has opportunities for Registered Professional Foresters throughout the state. Our anticipated placement will be on the Eldorado, Plumas, Tahoe, Shasta-Trinity, or Stanislaus National Forest. MGE headquarters are located in Folsom, CA and we facilitate and support remote work for RPF's throughout the state.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive forest management plans in accordance with regulatory requirements and client objectives.
  • Conduct field assessments and inventory surveys to evaluate forest health, biodiversity, and ecological functions.
  • Supervise and coordinate forestry operations, including timber harvesting, tree planting, and stand improvement activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of forest management practices, and recommend adjustments as needed to optimize outcomes.
  • Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and best management practices.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on forestry-related issues to clients, colleagues, and community members.
  • Document and provide compliance measures for NEPA/CEQA requirements.

Requirements for 1099-Contractor:

  • MUST HAVE REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL FORESTER CERTIFICATION. Provide your license number at the top of your resume to be considered. 
  • Proof of Commercial General Liability Insurance - $1 Million
  • Proof of Professional Errors and Omissions Liability Insurance - $1 Million 
  • Proof of Automobile Liability - $1 Million (combined bodily injury or property damage)
  • 4WD Vehicle capable of access all project areas
  • Valid Driver License and Clean driving record
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Forestry or related field
  • Strong knowledge of forestry principles, practices, and regulations, with an emphasis on sustainable land management
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Proficiency in GIS, GPS, and other relevant forestry software tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with a commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent attention to data requirements and technical detail
  • Proficiency with electronic devices and systems, such as mobile devices, GIS programs, MS Excel/Word
  • Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather
  • Willingness to travel during the week and weekends.

  • First aid and CPR
  • Reforestation and restoration experience
  • Fire experience or Fuels inventory and project layout experience
