Medical Billing Specialist

MetroPractice, a medical billing company in Rockville, has an immediate opening for regular full time Medical Billing Specialist with a minimum of 3 years of current medical billing experience - either with a medical billing company or a physician office. Prior experience with Allscripts PM, eClinicalWorks or Tebra (Kare) preferred.

Requirements

• Must have experience working with denied and rejected claims with one or more of the following specialties: primary care, cardiology, gastroenterology, mental health, radiology, or physical therapy.
• Must have experience using various insurance web portals for claim status and enrollment. You should know which portals are used for major payers: Aetna, Carefirst, United Healthcare, Cigna, various Medicare Advantage Plans and Medicaid MCO plans.
• Must be able to work in a paperless environment and understand how to produce electronic documents for the purpose of claim submission, denial appeals and payment posting.
• Must be able to manage multiple projects and be solutions oriented.
• Must be able to resolve denied and rejected claims within 60 days of initial filing.
• Experience with Physician Credentialing a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage Insurance AR including timely follow up for rejected, denied and unpaid claims using online payer portals. Resubmit, corrective claims actions and preparation of appeals as need to resolve claims.
• Manage Patient AR including corresponding with patients to resolve account inquiries and establish payment plans.
• Complete daily performance trackers to identify trends in denials and non-payments. Use the tracker to provide review of claims to proactively implement changes to the billing process.
• Review of charges for accurate coding and submit claims to insurance payers including Medicare, Medicaid, Carefirst and various commercial payers. Communicate efficiently with team members to resolve front end claims issues.
• Communicate with client offices regarding denial/rejection trends and opportunities to improve the billing process with the clients.
• Implement operating procedures and policies with management that will maximize the efficiency and revenue for clients. Strive to ensure clean claims submissions/payments with a single pass insurance submission.
• Report claims to management and clients that are not able to be resolved with a maximum of two touches.

• Able to work in a fast paced environment, multitask and thrive under pressure and deadlines in a team environment.
• Quickly and efficiently identify why claims are unpaid and resolve to payment.
• Able to understand, review and troubleshoot ERAs to resolve claims denials.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a professional and courteous manner.
• Technology proficient with previous PM and EMR experience and knowledgeable of Microsoft software products such as Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Salary / Benefits / Schedule

Competitive Salary: Starting at $41,000 and is commensurate with experience.
