The counselor position is an integral part of our program. One of the primary roles of the counselor is to provide support and expertise to students who may experience psychological stress, social difficulties, or acute crisis. As a school that specializes in students who manifest ADHD and Anxiety, the counselor plays an important role in supporting our students so that they are able to learn.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be part of a growing school with a grass-roots start. As we continue to grow, we are looking for someone who cannot only support our students now- but is able to help build our program for students in years to come.

The School Counselor will report to, and collaborate closely with, the school’s Executive Director.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach weekly SEL classes to each of our student cohorts to support academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.
  • Facilitate student groups to support targeted skills.
  • Support the IEP/504 process for students, including report writing and intervention plans.
  • Coordinate after-school guest SEL speakers for our school community, including parents.
  • Consult with faculty about strategies for specific students and act as a resource to provide education about social/emotional issues impacting learning.
  • Initiate crisis intervention and safety assessments according to the schools safety protocol.
  • Collaborate and communicate with teachers, support staff, administrators, parents/guardians, and outside agencies to assist students with academic, social/emotional, and transition planning.
  • Participate in student support team meetings to assess the overall progress, identify social/emotional and academic strengths and challenges, and recommend appropriate supports for individual students.
  • Attend faculty meetings and appropriate professional development workshops.
  • Work closely with the school’s Executive Director to address behavioral/emotional/social concerns/needs including disciplinary referrals when necessary.
  • Support student transition plans.
  • Continue development of the SEL program at our school.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in social work/school counseling/counseling/psychology or related field
  • LCPC/LCSW/Professional Educator License (School Counselor) preferred
  • Familiarity/Experience working with students with ADHD/Anxiety and other emotional concerns
  • Experience in an educational setting preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the social-emotional and developmental needs of adolescent students
  • Training and experience with safety and risk assessment
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to connect with kids and adolescents while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Proficient in Google Apps, cloud-based applications, and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated aptitude as a self-starter
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication
  • Effective communication, human relations, and problem solving skills

Pay: $60,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
