JOB SUMMARY & PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
REPORTS TO: School Principal

DEPARTMENT NAME: Leadership and Learning

JOB SUMMARY (2-3 sentences): Instructs students individually and in groups using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions and demonstrations. This position teaches elementary school grades.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: List, in the order of time spent, the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.
Job Responsibility 1:

Plans daily lessons to meet the individual needs of all students and assists students needing additional support. Differentiates instruction to meet students' varying needs and interests, with a focus on personalized instruction.

Job Responsibility 2:

Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and homework assignments. Communicates those objectives to students such that students are able to clearly communicate understanding of the objectives.

Job Responsibility 3:

Establishes and enforces classroom management and procedures for maintaining an effective learning environment.

Job Responsibility 4:

Confers with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators to support students' behavioral, social/emotional, college and career, and academic targets/goals.

Job Responsibility 5:

Designs and implements formative and summative assessments to measure progress towards academic benchmarks and standards, and to identify gaps in learning. Uses data to refine curriculum, adjust instructional practices, and support student development and academic achievement.

Job Responsibility 6:

Plans intentionally with a focus on individualized student needs, and prepares in advance for class activities and assignments. Creates a supportive, positive, achievement-oriented learning environment.

Job Responsibility 7:

Participates in collaborative curriculum development with a focus on addressing student's academic needs.

Job Responsibility 8:

Participates in collaborative program/school activities with colleagues, parents and students.

Job Responsibility 9:

Uses data to determine professional development activities specific to school and student needs, and participates as needed.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES, REQUIREMENTS, AND IMPACTS

Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; may compute ratios, rates, and percentages.
COMMUNICATIONS REQUIREMENTS : " Communications" involves the ability to read, write, and speak.
Reads journals and manuals; composes specialized reports and business letters using proper format and grammar; speaks to groups of coworkers and people outside the organization.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK : " Complexity of Work" addresses the analysis, initiative, ingenuity, creativity, and concentration required by the position and the presence of any unusual pressures.
Performs work involving the application of logical principles and thinking to solve practical problems within or applying to a unit or division of the organization; requires continuous, close attention for accurate results and frequent exposure to unusual pressure.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS : " Impact of Decisions" refers to consequences such as damage to property, loss of data or property, exposure of the organization to legal liability, or injury or death to individuals.
Makes decisions with serious impact - affects most units in organization, and may affect citizens.
EQUIPMENT USAGE : "Equipment Usage" refers to inanimate objects such as substances, materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, or products. A thing is tangible and has shape, form, and other physical characteristics.
Establishes methods and procedures for acquiring and handling machines, tools, equipment, or work aids involving extensive latitude for judgment regarding attainment of standard or in selecting appropriate items .
SAFETY OF OTHERS : " Safety of Others" refers to the responsibility for other people's safety, either inherent in the job or to assure the safety of the general public.
Requires considerable responsibility for the safety and health of others and/or continuous enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS : " Education Requirements" refers to job specific training and education required for entry into the position.
Bachelors' degree in education or related degree.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED : " Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations" refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations required to enter the position.
Must have a current Tennessee Teaching certificate or be in an eligible alternative licensure program.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : " Experience Requirements" refers to the amount of work experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the tasks required by the position.
Prior teaching experience preferred. Desire to work with at-risk students and/or experience with at-risk students expected.
More specific degree, certification, and experience requirements will be included in the position announcement as vacancies occur.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : " Physical Demands" refers to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Requires medium to heavy work involving exerting up to 70 pounds of force on a frequent basis and exceptional dexterity and skill in operating machinery, tools, or equipment.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS : " Unavoidable Hazards" refers to unusual conditions in the work environment that may cause illness or injury.
The position is exposed to extreme heat/cold, wet or humid conditions, bright/dim lights, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors, moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, traffic, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
