JOB SUMMARY & PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
REPORTS TO: Exceptional Education Coordinator

DEPARTMENT NAME: Exceptional Education

JOB SUMMARY (2-3 sentences): Provides students assigned to the Community-Based Transition Program with opportunities to achieve employment-related competencies in the workplace and classroom settings. Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions and demonstrations.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: List, in the order of time spent, the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.
Job Responsibility 1:

Implements a functional curriculum that addresses adult daily living activities; including employment, community involvement, and independent living.

Job Responsibility 2:

Plans daily lessons to meet the needs of all students assigned to the Community Based Transition Program and adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests related to post-secondary education, employment, independent living, and community involvement.

Job Responsibility 3:

Develops job site opportunities for job training internships.

Job Responsibility 4:

Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive behavior reinforcement. Establishes and enforces rules of behavior and procedures for maintaining order in the classroom, job site and community setting, including functional behavioral assessments, and behavior intervention plans.

Job Responsibility 5:

Designs and implements assessments that measure progress towards vocational goals. Uses assessment data to refine curriculum and adjust instructional practices.

Job Responsibility 6:

Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations, including Individual Education Plans, Safety Training Plan, and Task Analysis Plan.

Job Responsibility 7:

Confers with parents/guardians, other teachers, job site supervisors/co-workers, and administrators to resolve students' social/emotional and/or behavioral issues.

Job Responsibility 8:

Attends and actively participates in monthly Community Based Transition Program staff meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and understanding of special populations and work-based learning, including training for proper restraint procedures.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES, REQUIREMENTS, AND IMPACTS

PEOPLE RESPONSIBILITY : " People Responsibility" refers to individuals who have contact with or are influenced by the position.
Demonstrates ability to be professional and work with a positive attitude; demonstrates the ability to problem solve situations; demonstrate the ability to instruct or train others through explanation, demonstration, and supervised practice, or by making recommendations on the basis of technical disciplines; exhibits professionalism in all areas such as, but not limited to; confidentiality, respect for students, peers, and supervisors, punctuality, good attendance, appropriate hygiene and appearance; exhibit enthusiasm in the workplace.
MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS : " Mathematics" deals with quantities, magnitudes, and forms and their relationships and attributes by the use of numbers and symbols.
Must have competent basic math skills; uses addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; may compute ratios, rates, and percentages.
COMMUNICATIONS REQUIREMENTS : " Communications" involves the ability to read, write, and speak.
Reads journals and manuals; composes specialized reports and business letters using proper format and grammar; speaks to groups of coworkers and people outside the organization; respects the confidentiality of all information associated with students; communicates effectively with all staff.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK : " Complexity of Work" addresses the analysis, initiative, ingenuity, creativity, and concentration required by the position and the presence of any unusual pressures.
Performs work involving the application of logical principles and thinking to solve practical problems within or applying to a unit or division of the organization; requires continuous, close attention for accurate results and frequent exposure to unusual pressure.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS : " Impact of Decisions" refers to consequences such as damage to property, loss of data or property, exposure of the organization to legal liability, or injury or death to individuals.
Makes decisions with moderately serious impact - affects work unit and may affect other units or citizens.
EQUIPMENT USAGE : "Equipment Usage" refers to inanimate objects such as substances, materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, or products. A thing is tangible and has shape, form, and other physical characteristics.
Establishes methods and procedures for acquiring and handling machines, tools, equipment, or work aids involving extensive latitude for judgment regarding attainment of standard or in selecting appropriate items.
SAFETY OF OTHERS : " Safety of Others" refers to the responsibility for other people's safety, either inherent in the job or to assure the safety of the general public.
Requires considerable responsibility for the safety and health of others and/or continuous enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS : " Education Requirements" refers to job specific training and education required for entry into the position.
Bachelors' degree in special education required.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED : " Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations" refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations required to enter the position.
Current Tennessee Teaching certificate or eligible for alternative licensure program required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : " Experience Requirements" refers to the amount of work experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the tasks required by the position.
Prior teaching experience with work-based learning preferred.
More specific degree, certification, and experience requirements will be included in the position announcement as vacancies occur.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : " Physical Demands" refers to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Requires medium to heavy work involving exerting up to 70 pounds of force on a frequent basis and exceptional dexterity and skill in operating machinery, tools, or equipment.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS : " Unavoidable Hazards" refers to unusual conditions in the work environment that may cause illness or injury.
The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.
