Description

The Grant Writer is responsible for writing proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects from public and private fundings sources, and for submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant funded projects.

  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to government agencies, foundation, and corporate sources.
  • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants for specific agency programs, general operating funds, or capital needs.
  • Prepare letters of inquiry, proposals, grant applications, grant reporting, and other correspondence to public and private granting agencies.
  • Review drafts of proposals, including project narratives, budget, and other supporting documentation, in a timely manner to meet grant application deadlines.
  • Report weekly to Director of Development the status of upcoming and ongoing grant opportunities for their review.
  • Serve as a liaison to granting agencies on behalf of the organization, promoting the effort to secure new funding opportunities and maintain current relationships.
  • Work with finance to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.
  • Assist leadership and management staff with public grant applications as needed.
  • Comply with all reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors.
  • Maintain current records in database, including grant application and reporting schedules, grant status, moves management and submission/received ratio.
  • Provide grant notifications and outcomes for public announcements, acknowledgements, and recognition benefits.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of departmental or office administration by exercising discretion in communicating information to staff and managing departmental records, files, applications, proposal evaluations, and similar confidential materials.
  • Understanding of institutional history and programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Schedule: Mon - Fri, 8am - 4:30pm

Compensation & Benefits:

  • $25 - 27/hour

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Political Science, or related field
  • Minimum of three years' experience with grant writing.
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of people in a manner that positively portrays MDC and its programs, personnel, and mission.
  • Able to work well in a team environment, managing multiple assignments and meeting deadlines.
  • Able to monitor and meet income goals.
  • Strong writing skills and excellent attention to detail.
