Metropolitan Community College is Hiring a Leather Artisan Noncredit Instructor - Continuing Education Near Omaha, NE

MCC’s Continuing Education Department is seeking a talented and passionate leather artisan to join our team and lead leatherworking classes for the community. As a Leather Artisan and Instructor, you will have the opportunity to share your expertise and creativity with students of all skill levels, fostering their love for the craft and empowering them to create beautiful leather goods.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop Curriculum: Design comprehensive and engaging lesson plans for leatherworking classes, catering to beginners, intermediate, and advanced learners.
  • Instruct Classes: Lead hands-on workshops and demonstrations, covering various techniques such as cutting, stitching, tooling, dyeing, and finishing leather.
  • Demonstrate Techniques: Provide clear and detailed demonstrations of leatherworking techniques, ensuring students understand and can replicate each step effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Leatherworking: Proficient in various leatherworking techniques, including cutting, stitching, tooling, dyeing, and finishing. Extensive experience creating high-quality leather goods.
  • Teaching Experience: Prior experience instructing or mentoring individuals in a workshop or classroom setting. Ability to communicate effectively and adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Passion for Education: Genuine enthusiasm for sharing knowledge and inspiring others to discover and pursue their passion for leatherworking.
  • Safety Conscious: Strong commitment to promoting a safe and responsible working environment, with knowledge of best practices for using leatherworking tools and equipment safely.
  • Creativity and Innovation: Creative mindset with the ability to develop engaging lesson plans and encourage students to explore their creativity while pushing the boundaries of traditional leatherworking techniques.
  • Organization and Communication: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan and manage class schedules, resources, and student progress effectively. Clear and concise communication skills both verbally and in writing.
