Metropolitan College of New York is Hiring a MSED Program Field Placement Coordinator Near New York, NY

Summary

The part-time Field Coordinator is the program coordinator and liaison to all elementary and secondary public schools with whom Metropolitan College of New York places teacher education candidates for field experiences and student teaching (clinical practice). 

Major Responsibilities

  • Placement, monitoring and coordination of field experiences and student teaching consistent with the MSED program policies, new 2024 NYCDOE and NYSED requirements, and AAQEP accreditation standards.
  • Establish and maintain communications (phone, email, and/or in person) with school administrators/liaisons, cooperating teachers and college faculty for candidates’ field experiences and student teaching. 
  • Solicit additional qualified cooperating teachers and establish new school partnerships. 
  • Serve as a resource and problem-solver for college faculty field supervisors, cooperating teachers, and administrators/liaisons for candidates in their field placements.
  • Coordinate assessments and maintain databases and records for school placements, NYCDOE background clearances, accreditation assessments, and for continuous improvement. 
  • Disseminate program information to cooperating schools, teacher candidates, and college faculty.
  • Coordinate and send graduate course vouchers to cooperating teachers that host MSED students in their classrooms.
  • Coordinate and co-plan the MCNY Teacher Education Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Support and participate in city, state and national field coordinator forums to promote effective teaching practices, policies and procedures, and when appropriate, provide professional support for systemic educational reform.
  • Perform additional duties at the request of the Director of the MSED Program.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education plus at least five years of combined teaching and supervisory professional experience in a P-12 setting. Preference for experience in New York Public Schools
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS –Word, MS-Excel, email, and computer file management, with the ability to learn additional software, applications, and social media tools, as needed.
  • Ability to analyze problems effectively within context and identify workable, self-managed solutions.
  • Able to organize and prioritize work based on candidate, program, and institutional goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with diverse groups in internal and external publics. 
  • Ability to travel by NYC mass transit to school placement sites.
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required.

MCNY is operating in a hybrid work format. Currently, this role works at least 3 days a week from the office and 2 days remote.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $26.53 for 6 hours per week.
