High school graduate or equivalent plus two years of specialized formal training in electrical/electronic repair or mechanical repair. Four years of experience in the repair and maintenance of complex electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and components required. Must possess good analytical, oral and written communication and organizational skills. Experience in the operation of personal computers in a spreadsheet, word processing and database environment required. Experience using a computerized maintenance management information system is highly desirable. In lieu of specialized formal training directly related electronic repair experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis.
Uses standardized methods for planning maintenance activities for Journeyman level employees who maintain and repair communications and computer maintenance systems, and all rail car systems, both electrical and mechanical. As part of a controlled maintenance environment, produces preventive maintenance work orders (PM). Uses a computerized maintenance management system to compile and analyze all maintenance work backlogs and work requests, work orders, labor cost, equipment replacement, and other maintenance related data. Interacts with front-line supervisors to streamline production efforts and identify trends in the performance of maintenance activities. Generates several reports that outline the effectiveness of the controlled maintenance environment for review by upper management. Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree.
1. Works closely with shop management and supervision to ensure day-to-day activities in support of business unit work goals are completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
2. Plans and schedules all preventive and predictive maintenance work in accordance with established guidelines to ensure timely completion.
3. Tracks all work orders and maintenance projects to completion.
4. Uses a computerized maintenance management system to compile and analyze all maintenance work backlogs and work requests, work orders, labor costs, equipment replacement, and other maintenance related data. Closes and completes work orders in accordance with branch's procedures.
5. Monitors inventory of supplies, special tools and equipment, and reserves all stores material required for planned work.
6. Coordinate and/or setup purchase orders to expedite solicitation of services and equipment with vendors.
7. Drafts inventory stock change document for review and approval as needed.
8. Generates various department reports that outline the effectiveness of the maintenance environment for review by upper management.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
