The Metropolitan Airports Commission is accepting applications to fill one vacancy as a Airport Maintenance Worker at Flying Cloud Reliever Airport in Eden Prairie, MN. Position Summary: Primarily serves as an equipment operator performing the skilled and semi-skilled level work required to maintain the Reliever airports airfields and grounds maintenance functions. Engages in safe and appropriate procedures when operating equipment and performing all duties. General duties include snow and ice control on airfield and in other areas, grounds keeping/landscaping, concrete and asphalt installation and repair, fence installation and repair, pollution control, garbage removal and other general clean-up/maintenance of airfield and other airport security areas. Perform all other duties assigned by Senior Airport Maintenance Worker or Managers of Reliever Airports.This is a safety-sensitive position which will require a pre-employment drug screen.Base Pay, Pay Differentials, and ShiftsBase Pay*: $29.334 - $36.421 -- Effective July 2024, Base Pay increases to $30.507 - $37.878.Pay Differentials $0.60/hour - Class A CDL - OR - $0.40/hour for Forklift Certification $1.25/hour - 2nd Shift $2.00/hour - 3rd ShiftShifts1st Shift: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.2nd Shift: 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.3rd Shift*: 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.Weekend - Wednesday - Sunday 06:00 a.m. - 02:30 p.m. ** Current Shift Opening is for weekends -- Wednesday - Sunday 06:00am-02:30pm. RELATIONSHIPSSupervisory – Reports to Senior Airport Maintenance Worker and Manager of Reliever Airports.Organizational – Occasional contact with other MAC personnel; may assist Trades and other MAC personnel.External Business – Occasional contact with airport tenants and contract personnel. POSITION DESCRIPTION Snow and Ice Removal Function as an equipment operator performing snow and ice removal using specialized snow removal equipment within the airport security area, and in public areasOperate snow plows, snow blowers, tractors, sanders, liquid chemical dispensing vehicles and snow hauling vehiclesPerform manual snow removal operations Landscaping/Grounds Keeping Perform skilled level work in a variety of landscaping/ grounds keeping duties including landscaping and turf management, grading and rut/depression filling and application of weed control chemicals. Apply weed control chemicals, operate weed whips and back-pack blowers.Plan, cut and trim trees, shrubs and flowering plants; install ornamental landscaping fixtures.Safely operate diesel-powered tractors with mower attachments, small tractors, riding mowers and other powered landscaping equipment.Bituminous and Concrete Repair Perform bituminous and concrete repairs on runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons, parking ramps, parking lots, sidewalks, roadways and other public areasPour concrete for repair of sewers, drains, catch basins and larger concrete repairsPerform brick or block work as neededPerform joint seal repairs including sawing, routing and installation of hot-application joint seal materialProvide traffic control at work sitesFence, Sign and Gate Construction and Maintenance Install, assemble, cut and repair chain-link fence, barbed wire and sliding gate sections, both manual and electric typeInstall, repair and replace signage, sign posts and other support structuresGeneral Airport Cleaning Operate power sweepers for cleaning of runways, taxiways, aircraft parking aprons, parking lots, roadways, and other public areasSafely operate power sweepers, back pack blowers, power washers, vacuums and other equipmentPerform rubbish and trash removal, including manual collection as requiredPollution Control Empty trash receptacles and transfer debris to dumpsters or disposal sites as directedPerform inspections of drainage systems and check operation of storm water control equipmentInstall and replace absorbent collection devices at appropriate locationsAssist in containing and recovering fuel spills, oil spills and other pollutants on airport surfaces or near airport rivers, lakes, streams and catch basinsGeneral Duties Operate mobile and base station radio equipment; maintain contact with airport tower while performing airfield duties according to Federal Aviation Administration and/or Airport Operations Area movement proceduresTrain co-workers on the safe and proper use of equipmentAssist the trades and contract personnel Conduct daily inspections of the airfieldIssues NOTAMs and Airfield Condition ReportsMay coordinate flight activity during snow events with aircraft operators Perform parts pick-up and delivery and assist in equipment maintenance, cleaning and careOperate mobile and base-station radio equipmentPerform other duties as assigned

Motor Vehicle Record Evaluation GuidelineEffective September 11, 2015Safe driving habits are critical for individuals employed in MAC occupations that require extensive driving of equipment on the aircraft operating area. As a result, external applicants for the Airport Maintenance Worker position must meet the MAC's standard of safe driving in order to be hired.A contingent offer of employment shall be withdrawn if the motor vehicle record contains: 1. Three (3) or more minor moving violations within the last three (3) years from date of offer. Minor violations include, but not limited to: Failure to wear a seat beltSpeedingFailure to stop at a stop signFailure to yield2. Any major violation within the past three (3) years from date of offer including, but not limited to: Driving under influence of alcohol/drugsOpen bottle or allowing open bottleFailure to stop/report an accidentViolations as a result of an accidentReckless driving/speeding contestMaking a false accident reportHomicide, manslaughter or assault arising out of the use of a vehicleDriving while license is suspended/revokedCareless drivingAttempting to elude a police officerExcessive speedAny pending criminal matter for a serious traffic offense will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.Felony: A crime for which a sentence of imprisonment for more than one year and a fine of more than $3,000 may be imposed. (Examples: criminal vehicular operations resulting in injury or death, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle resulting in an injury or death.)Gross Misdemeanor: Any crime which is not a felony or misdemeanor, the maximum fine for which is $3,000.00, and imprisonment for up to one year. (Examples: fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, subsequent DWI violations within five and ten years.)Misdemeanor: A crime for which a sentence of not more than 90 days or a fine of $1,000.00, or both, may be imposed. (Examples: Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Driving After Suspension/Driving After Revocation (DAS/DAR), reckless/careless driving, no insurance, open bottle, parking in a handicapped area, third moving violation in a year, petty misdemeanor violations with enhancements.)Petty Misdemeanor: A petty offense which is prohibited by statute, which does not constitute a crime, for which a fine of not more than $100.00 may be imposed, unless the violation was originally a misdemeanor, whereupon the fine may not exceed $200.00. (Examples: speeding, failing to stop at a stop sign, failure to yield.)
